Anyone looking forward to DOOM?

So little hype?!!! Jesus, I barely watch television, and I can’t get away from the freaking ads. The trailer also appears before every movie I’ve seen for the past four months, including Wallace & Grommet and March of the Penguins.*
I honestly thought it was coming out two weeks ago, the advertising campaign was at such a pitch.

Sua
*pure hyperbole. The trailer did not appear before either movie.

Oh wow.

I don’t think I want to see it any more.

I didn’t want to see it anyway. I’ve been trying to convince my friends that want to go see it to see Serenity instead, or just buy the damn game and get much more for your money.

Yeah, I was hoping the movie would do it justice in some small way, but it seems like it’s either impossible to replicate some of the charm of those first three episodes, or no one’s really trying.

24th chromosome. Jesus H. Christ in a chicken basket.

Healthpaks. Lots and lots of healthpaks.

Yeah, that’s pretty stupid. I like the “Gateway to Hell” thing a bit better.

Would that be the original concept seen in Aliens? :dubious:

Kinda, but this one apparently seems like you are looking through the characters eyes…or playing a FPS.

Yeah, it was closer to an FPS from the trailer.

The thing that bugged me about the FPS bits in the trailer was that the gun was in focus. Generally speaking, I don’t think you’d have both the gun and what you’re looking at in focus at the same time. When I took a handgun safety class they taught us to look through the sights, but focus on the target, since being able to see the gun perfectly is useless when you can’t see what you’re shooting at

Other than that, the Wing Commander movie (and, to be perfectly fair, Star Wars, even if it lacks the authenticity that being based on a video game gives you) had the character’s POV shots during the space battles.

True, but in any FPS your gun is always in focus. It’d look wrong(er) the correct way.

Yeah. They’re calling it “Helmet Cam” though.

Additionally, many players would not realize that the blurry gun was intentional and complain about bad graphics.

IMHO The most compelling reason is that players may frequently be switching between guns. If the gun is blurry, it can be dificult to be sure what weapon your’e currently using. As using certain guns in close quarters can be fatal, it’s important to know what you’re firing.

I beleive a realistic approach can be found in “Operation Flashpoint”.

One of the views available is through the gunsights, they appear slightly blurry while your target is in focus.

IIRC of course, its been a while since I played it.

I’m going to feel bad about convicing my manager to have the men in the department leave work to see the 2 o’clock showing for this movie. :frowning:

Not as bad after you’ll feel when they savagely beat you after watching it!
