I’m planning on going to Yosemite in about 5 days.
There is currently a fire there, so I’m thinking that there may be too much smoke.
Are any Dopers near Yosemite right now? Is there a lot of smoke in the valley? If there is a lot of smoke, do you think it’ll be gone in five days?
If there’s too much smoke, I’m thinking of going to Lake Tahoe.
The NPS site has several webcam views that can give you an idea of what the air quality is like. It doesn’t look too awful, but there is definitely a smoky haze. The thing is, the situation could change if the wind picks up or if there’s a lightning strike somewhere. With conditions as dry as they are, a fire could flare up anywhere in the Sierras, including the Tahoe area.
I’m planning on heading up to Saddleback Lake next weekend myself and I’ve been keeping an eye on those fires. What I’m concerned about is road closures–if something happens and they close 120/Tioga Pass Rd, getting back to the Bay Area would require quite a detour.
