What do you guys think? I’m not a huge Mech Warrior fan and all that, but I did play Mech Warrior 4 quite a bit when my roomate had it, and I got to say, it makes me feel like something serious is missing from Mech Assault.
For example, I REAAAALLY miss being able to customize my mech. Switching out armor and weapons is just fun and allows you to create some really fun mechs. Being forced to stick with standards is pretty lame.
And I don’t like the idea of having to filter through which weapons you want to use. The X-Box controller has about fifteen million buttons. Why the game can’t be set so each one controls a different type of weapon is beyond me.
But, I have to admit, so far, it is still pretty fun, and the video sequence and storyline are pretty neat. So, I’m a little up in the air.
I’ve only played it a little bit. So far, it seems like it’s not a mech game so much as a third-person shooter that happens to have you running around as a mech instead of a person. Basically it just looks like a game for people who like to run around and blow shit up.
I can totally understand their wanting to make an arcadey, accessible version of the game. I’ve wanted to like the Mechwarrior games, but they were just at that level of complicated-vs-fun that I quickly lost interest. But I can’t see why they bothered using that whole license if they’re not going to put any customization in there, especially in between missions.
I’m not touching another battletech game until they make another sim. If someone would just update the graphics and levels but keep the playstyle of Mechwarrior 3 I’d be very happy.
