I am. I play on the percival server in the Midgard realm. I have a dwarven healer named Cyfrllaeth (it is an improper way of saying whole milk in Welsh heheheh… anti establishment me…). I have been enjoying it although I have to upgrade my video card and the last video card I bought didn’t fit in my available slot.
Kobold Rogue named Kreekow on Gawaine. Just bought the game last night. I’m still up in the air over it - I’ve played Everquest for about 6 months now, and I’m by no means sick of it.
My first impressions of DAOC is that it’s a bit dumbed-down. EQ was HARD to play! I think I went through 3 characters before I figured out how to stay alive more than 10 minutes. In DAOC, I had to go out of my way to get my lvl 2 Kobold killed. The monsters are way easy - seems like you don’t have to worry about them grouping at all, at least in the newbie area. I can walk right into a pack of spectral hogs, target one of 'em & kill it, and the others just walk around doing their hog business.
Still, the graphics are beautiful. I love my little blue Kobold with the fiery red hair. It was nice to be able to afford to buy a new sword at level 3, something that definitely does NOT happen on EQ. And the little tasks & quests are kind of fun.
As far as difficulty goes, wait until you get out on some plains or something and everything there cons purple to you. Or until you get into a dungeon where there is nothing but con purple monsters and you can’t even run away.
Our guild name is [url=“http://ost10.tripod.com”]Dark Honor, and you should come check out our website if you get a chance. We’ve got some cool screen shots up there and whatnot. If you ever feel like playing an Albion, come join us on Lancelot, we’ll hook you up.
I love it. I was so tired of everquest after 3 or so years, I’m just glad to have a change, and a world that isn’t as screwed up. I think they have fixed a lot of the things that were just kind of stupid in Everquest(How many times did die when I accidently attacked my Guildmaster). The binding thing is so much better and I think the classes are much better thought out, and made special, rather than cookie-cutters with the exact same abilities running around. I especially like quests that are appropriate to my level, that give out a reward thats actually usefull. . The graphics are just mind blowing.
I’m playing a Firbolg Warden on Pellinor. I can’t wait until I grow up enough to hack me up some Albions and Midgarders.
Anyone want to start a DAOC Straight Dope Guild with me? I will be willing to go to any server and would like people who are into roleplaying. Email me at paganbearcub@hotmail.com and we can set up what we need.
Are you guys running full on screaming game machines or do you have just the minimum specs ? I just meet the minimum requirements ,128mb RAM, PIII 450,and 32mb video card. It’s been my experience that minimum requirements will run a game but playing it is unbearable. I suppose I could use this as an excuse to upgrade but I’d like to know if I can get away with the minimum.
I played in the beta, but it wasn’t engrossing to the point that I’d want to pay for it. I am not that pvp oriented, and don’t see much else in the game’s future. PVP in a level based system generally sucks for those who don’t have a lot of time to spend, which clashes with the game’s intention of being for the casual gamer. PvP seemed to me like capture the flag for the lesser reflexes crowd.
On the other hand, the existence of the game rocks, as it’s caused EQ to totally rethink a lot of the ways it does things.
I’m on Guinevere, under the name Ramthananax Eirssen- a Norseman Healer, specialized in Augment. Microbug finally decided she wanted to play, as well, so she’s now playing Caliana Eirssen- a Norseman Warrior.
With my buffs, we work REALLY well together.
So far, I kinda like it. I’m a bit concerned about the long-term viability of the game, though- like in EQ, I don’t feel like I’m really adventuring. The world feels much like an amusement park- everything’s set up for me to have a fun time in- there’s no real sense of exploration or adventure. I’m hoping this will change- I think adding in a bit of a storyline, a la Asheron’s Call, would really help.
I play a cabalist and a mercenary on the Palomides server. I’ve lost more time to this game than I EVER did with EQ (back before Verant became a bunch of jerks) and Asheron’s Call (utterly bland setting and rampant cheating). I hope DAoC manages to keep this level of customer service and fun, because it’s better than EQ ever was.

If I can ever afford to buy software again, I think DAoC will have to be on my short list. Everybody seems to love the game, and it’s actually stable right out of the box for most users. No patches. No tweaks. Amazing.
