I’m sorry if this has been discussed before, but all the search terms are too short for the search engine . . .
So, anyone reading it? I’m just done with the first book and am looking for an e-book version of the second one, because I simply can’t wait the 8 hours until Outland opens. Jezus, what a trip!
My favourite character is probably Logen, with Glokta a very close second. While I do love Glokta’s embittered sense of humour and off-colour jokes and his side-kick characters (Frost’s “Poithhon, thir?” - if you’ve read it you’ll know what I mean - had me literally cramped up over my desk at work, last night) I find Logen to be a very sympathic character. His somewhat naïvistic and resigned outlook at life is refreshing in a hero character. Admittedly, I came onto this book after a bout of trying to read Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind’s works (emphasis on trying) and I guess I was pretty sick of the martyrized and lofty main characters, but still. I find him well written and genuinely funny. Logen’s repeat lines are so very, very fitting and it’s such a nice touch when bit-part characters project him. (Like Quai’s " . . . I’m still alive!" at the end)
And this was Abercrombie’s debut? Holy shamrocks, Batman! Definitely a man to watch.
ETA: Also, Joe Abercrombie has a pretty nice blog. He’s got a sharp wit.
