Anyone recommend a personal / medical alarm? Or warn me off one?

Welp, my mother has started falling on occasions (which we are trying to address with her neuro and ortho docs). Not collapsing, just tripping over stuff, losing her balance. No loss of consciousness. She is able enough, for now, to get up on her own, but just to be safe, my sister and I have decided to get her one of those personal / medical “help I’ve fallen and can’t get up” alarms. Life Alert came to mind immediately, but while googling it this consumer site popped up as well, so now I’m a bit reticent to commit to it. I’ve found other seemingly-reputable companies, Lifeline and American Senior Safety Agency, which look kinda nice. Anyone have any personal experiences, recommendations, warnings they might share?

You’ll get better opinions in IMHO.

I’ll move it for you.

When I used to volunteer with an EMS agency, we would occasionally answer calls relayed to us by medical alarm companies. Lifeline seemed to be the most common of these, as it is the only one whose name I can remember.

No negative experiences to report. They always relayed information to us correctly, and stayed on the line with the patient until we arrived–they would always request that we reset the box connected to the phone, and I spoke to them several times for directions on how to do that, so they definitely had not hung up.

For what Lifeline or Life Alert costs (“A little more than a dollar a day”), you may as well spend a couple bucks more a month and go with a regular home alarm system (eg: Brinks, ADT, ProtectionOne)

With any of those, adding a panic button pendant that your mother can carry is trivial. Plus she has the benefit of protection against home intrusion or burglary.
