Anyone remember the Scopitone juke box?

We had one of these in the Chief’s Mess at Rosy Rhodes, P.R. in 1971. If I recall correctly it was 50 cents a song, a lot in '71.

Aaa, you baby boomers think you invented everything. Check this out:
Mills Panoram Jukebox, 1941

These were all over the place during and just after WW2. They played 3 minute reels called Soundies. Because the Panoram showed the picture in a mirror, the reels were all printed with the picture and titles “flopped.”

I haven’t seen the machine that plays them, but I do have several Scopitone videos on tape that were shown on Much Music by Terry David Mulligan, back in the mid-'90s. Interesting stuff!

They were a bit before my time so I don’t remember them. Still, here’s an interesting 2004 article about Scopitone shorts from the Film Threat website.

Back in the day (insert geezer voice here) when AMC actually showed classic movies instead of “RoboCop 47” over and over again, they had a “drive-in” movie show on late on Fridays or Saturdays. Monster flicks, beach party movies, etc. They would show old Scopitones, too - I clearly remember the one for “The Night Has A Thousand Eyes”. I thought it was pretty cool.
