I rented this movie last night because it had basically everyone from Clerks, including Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, in it and it starred Brian Halloran as a clown. Must be funny and good right?
Wrong. That movie is NOT funny, it is a really twisted movie full of clowns getting raped, people being blowtorched to death, and all around one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. There are VERY few funny scenes in the movie. I dont even know how the hell this thing got made because it has the worst set design of any movie I have ever seen. They must have had a lower budget than they did for Clerks even. And the acting in it is god aweful. Brian Halloran shows some promise, I think he is good at delivering tough lines, but everyone else was UCK!! Started off funny though.
All in all I say avoid this flick like the plague.
I thought it was incredibly tastless and unfunny (in the “humorous” parts)- yet I also thought it was interesting.
I wouldn’t recommend it to everybody, but it is definitely unique. I would classify it more as a “rape and revenge” exploitation thriller in the mode of Last House on the Left.
In a way, the dramatic change in tone after he is assaulted makes the movie quite effective- not that I’d want to see it again, but it was quite a visceral experience.
Last House on the Left with clowns pretty much sums it up.
That was one of the most DRAMATIC changes in tone of a movie I have ever seen.
Just curious grendel, what did you think of Brian Holloran’s performance? Do you see him being able to go anywhere? I think with the right role he could do a great job.
I think he could be a good actor, but in “real” movies I think he will always be typecast as Dante.
The guy can act, but I get the feeling that he won’t be given any chances apart from View Askew productions- that hollywood casting directors think of him as “that guy in the Kevin Smith movies”…
