Anyone seen JONAH?

Has anyone seen the new Veggie Tale Movie : Jonah?

If you like the Veggie Tales at all - it is really good. If you have never seen Veggie Tales - you will be suprised how funny it is and yet how well they get across a biblical message of compassion and forgiveness.

Kids love veggie tales - my 2 have seen this movie twice already, and I am sure it will be added to our growing collection of dvd/video later on.

Veggie Tales are a collection of 1/2 hour videos that use computer generated vegetable characters to act out modern retellings of biblical stories and themes. Lots of funny songs, lots of funny characters and an interesting animation style.

Take-offs of batman/superman (involving a super hero cucumber) are my favorites.

Well, if you have kids - take them to this movie - it will be fun enough for you to enjoy it as well.

Enjoy!

Remember God made you special and He loves you very much.

Yes!
I have seen it on its first night-Friday.
It was better than I thought.
I have a 9 year old and we have seen all the other videos.

Khalil the caterpillar was the star.
He was funny, with an Indian accent.

I think they said they borrowed a bit from Monty Python in that they had a group of sailors called The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.

Everyone I know loves Larry the Cucumber.

I saw it on Saturday with my nephew.

I have seen a few Veggie Tales before, I thought it was pretty good, but not as much as some other cartoons directed at adults too (Disney does it well, and before that, Bugs Bunny). It was entertaining and he really liked it.

I am glad to see that Jonah is doing pretty well in the box office department - they only opened it on a small number (less than 1000) of screens and it is making more per screen than “sweet home alabama” . I think Jonah was 6th for the weekend in total receipts. Mabye it will be shown on a few more screens and grow from word of mouth (like “greek wedding…” has done).
I liked Khalil also - I kept wondering the whole time why they had picked a caterpillar as a side-kick until I finally remembered the end of the bible story (worm - not caterpillar - but Khalil kept saying that his father was a worm). Great portrayal of the story of Jonah including the abrubt ending. It put the story in a way that kids can understand and helps us adults understand the basics as well.

Enjoy!

Bye!

Larry Boy is the best - I AM THAT HERO - lean and mean green machine.

One more “yes” vote here. An excellent entry in the series.

My favorite part–Jonah’s swim cap. I had one just like that, when I was a little girl in the 1960s.

Two caveats, though: If you’re the type of moviegoer who is bothered by one or both of the following things, you won’t like it:

  1. Stunningly obvious anachronisms–a story set in Bible times that features Ping Pong, RayBans, outboard motors, motivational cassette tapes (“You…are a go-getter…”) and the U.S. Postal Service.

  2. Vegetables with no arms or legs who wear clothing, drive mini-vans, play Go-Fish and the guitar, and ride camels.

If you’re the sort of person who’s going to sit there obsessing about what’s holding up the asparagus’ monocle, or is bothered by the sight of a Bible Times person selling snacks from a Coney Island vending booth (complete with pull-down metal shutter), or a Scotsman in a tartan turban selling cruise ship tickets, then you won’t like it.

But if you can get into it–oh baby.

It helps if you remember that to the rest of us, who are familiar with the video series, this is just a full-length visit with old friends. Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Pa Grape, Junior Asparagus, the French Peas, the Mexican onion with the gold tooth–the video series features all of these, well, “people”, acting out various Bible stories.

Watching this movie, I had exactly the same feeling as I had watching the first Star Trek movie. We know these people–when Dad Asparagus and Bob the Tomato get into an argument in the front seat of the minivan, there’s “history” there, for us.

Although this is light-years better than the first Star Trek movie was, in comparison, no question. This is not just a full-length movie for the sake of making a full-length movie. It’s actually a 79-minute long “Veggie Tales” video, so for those of you who, like me, just automatically go out and buy the next one as soon as it’s available, you won’t be disappointed.

And make sure you stay for all the credits–no outtakes, but the “Credits Song” is cute (when they get around to it.)
