I can’t get enough of this show. Gotta be one of my favorites. I just love the cranky doctor who loves to treat ailments but hates to deal with patients. Laurie is just great as House.
I’ve also enjoyed the plots which have been strange, but plausible. Not the normal cases, but not X-Files nutty either. It makes it kind of like ER crossed with CSI.
I’m watching it, but only peripherally. It’s amusing, but I really would like to see some of the interns rip into House. It’s not like anyone is going to fault them if they do. They need more spine.
I’ll watch it if I am flipping through and see it but it’s not something I look forward to during the week. Hugh Lurie’s horrible accent is jarring at times.
I watch it all the time. I have no problem with Laurie’s “American” accent; it is MUCH better than, oh, Olivier’s, for instance. And I love to watch his face, Who knew watching his earlier, baby-faced roles that he was born to look grizzled and burnt out?
I am ashamed, though, that I didn’t make the House/Holmes pun connection on my own.
Wife likes how House is more like the real doctors she works with than most TV doctors, except they don’t have the brilliance to go with the miserable personality.
Odd thing: After last night’s episode was over I switched to an episode of “Mystery” already in progress and there was Jesse Spence (Dr Chase, the young, Brit-like doctor) in a “Dalgliesh” mystery from last year, “Death In Holy Orders.” My daughters were heartbroken when his naked butt was fuzzed out.
Still watching, still enjoying, still hoping hard that the show gets enough of a following that it doesn’t get cancelled–at least not before it’s been around long enough for a DVD box set.
I watch it, and enjoy it, even though I can usually tell which way the plot is about to go, even after only 3 or 4 episodes. Last night, for instance:
I started saying, “It’s something in the tea!” about 10 minutes before Dr. House figured it out, then when he did, I started saying, “It’s something else besides the tea!” because there was still 20 minutes left in the epsiode – plenty of time for one more dangerous reversal.
Although I have no witnesses to confirm this.
Also, and I’m sure this is my own problem and not Hugh Laurie’s, but every once in a while there will be an expression on his face that makes me expect him to call somebody “Jeeves” or start making a noise like a chicken.
It was pretty good. Did the previous ones follow the same plot structure? One main medical case that occupies everybody, instead of rapid fire medical cases like on ER?
Yes, the focus is always on one medical case. Although usually Dr. House is more or less forced to work in the clinic and see a few other patients for a minute or two at a time. Often, an offhand remark made by one of those patients will give him an “Aha!” moment that helps him solve the big case.
I watch it whenever it’s on. The last two weeks (including last night…grrr  ) have been pre-empted by local college basketball games (my ire is so great that it’s almost deserving a Pit thread), so I’ll have to wait until Saturday night to see it.
I can’t quite figure out why he can’t just be British. He doesn’t do a very good accent and it doesn’t add anything to the show. There are British doctors in America, I know because I have seen them on ER.
I love this show. Not necessarily because the stories are all that good, but I have a weak spot for characters that are old, bitter, and sarcastic. The team of straight men he has running around do seem a bit bland, but they might get better with time.
I especially enjoy the scenes where House is sparring with Dr Cuddy, the hospital administrator (or whatever she is), and the 2 minute clinic duty examinations. Oftentimes deliciously condescending.
Was it in the scene where…
The nun complains about her mouth being dry, and the australian doctor says “I’ll get you some of your tea.” Not water, not just tea… “your tea”. That was a bit too obvious for it to be the real cause, they usually do better.
Oh, do you mean Inspector Lestrade? The one he gripes about and who sometimes stands in his way yet for whom he holds a grudging admiration if not a major case? And don’t tell me you thought Sherlock Holmes was STRAIGHT!
I enjoy it, but I do have trouble suspending my disbelief at times. Yes, I’m sure that when a patient disappears, it’ll be three doctors that go search the hospital for him. The lab stuff is particularly bad, but that’s probably because I work in a lab. Still, anyone should know that a lab is staffed by lab workers, not by the same three doctors when they have some spare time. OTOH, I do have to give them credit that they had the right software running on the LightCycler computer. Then again, the doctor sitting at that computer was typing when she was at a screen where you can only use a mouse…
OK, I’m getting a wee bit nitpicky here. I’ll stop.
Firstly, joy in my heart! I don’t see a ‘House 12/7’ thread every week or something (though someone did ask a question about last night’s episode) making me dispair that too few people are watching (and being on FOX, that means… oh oh).
Well you can start to see some dissention in the ranks (12/14’s episode). Of course, there will always be those who won’t say anything bad to their boss, especially if he has shown himself more than competant. I think House is trying to get the interns to the stage where they can go after him.
Oh, I so agree :D. The character of House is great. If he wasn’t so brilliant, they’d ship him off long ago ;).
I’d be disappointed if you did ;). This is SMDB. I expect the nitpicking :D.
I also enjoy that in every episode so far we learn a little more about the history of the interns. Last night (12/14), it was the blond Aussie. We’d had a few things about the woman and the black guy in the past few weeks. I wonder what they’ll do once we know a good deal about the histories of the interns and they can’t use that as part of the plot.
