Anyone Taken Any Tests Lately?

I took my county’s test - I’m already an EMT-B with a volunteer fire company. Now I’m trying to get into the county as a career EMT. I didn’t think I’d do it when I became an EMT, but when they started recruiting, something just clicked. I really like it. I got a lot of encouragement from people at my station, and it just felt right, so here I am at the advanced age of 41, competing with a bunch of fit 20-somethings. I must be nuts.

Finals for my Japanese course tonight. It’s amazing to learn how much I’ve been mangling the language for all this time. (“Wow… there’s an extra syllable in sukoshi.”)

My levels of vitamin B12 were abnormally low at my last physical, so my doctor sent me for a Schilling’s test awhile ago to see if my body has trouble absorbing B12. The results were normal, so now I just take a B12 supplement to make up what I lack.

In April, I took the Texes exam in special education. I was offered a spot in a teaching training program, and I wanted to have the test out of the way if I decided to accept it. Ultimately, I elected to turn it down, but I passed the test, much to my surprise.

Taking it was a surreal experience. It was offered in a high school, and it reminded me that I always, always hated having to wait while the instructions were read aloud.
