Anyone thinking about getting the new Kindle Voyage?

Well I pre-ordered it on the first day it became available. I was guaranteed to get it on release day.

I put it in my back pocket as I was running to the subway, sat down on the train and heard a CRAAAAACK. Now the screen is in 3 pieces, with only the bottom left corner still working.

Stopped by Best Buy last night for a demo, but they said they wouldn’t be receiving it until the end of the week. The regular $79 kindle is just like my old one’s screen, and the paperwhite’s backlight really needs some adjusting because I couldn’t imagine actually reading it from the way the store model was lit up.

I am trying very hard to resist the temptation to get this. I got such a deal on my PaperWhite ($20 new) that maybe I can justify it.

Like everyone else, I like the dedicated page-turning buttons and the automatic light sensor for the backlighting is nice. I always forget to change the brightness settings on my PaperWhite.

Back Pocket, eh? I guess I will not be doing that when I get the Voyager. Thanks fusoya.

I guess it’s a little late for this, but a long time ago when I sat on my Kindle Fire and cracked the screen, I contacted Amazon and told them what I’d done; and even told them it was 100% my fault. They gave me a discount on a re-purchase providing I’d send them the old one. That’s when I ‘downgraded’ and got my paperwhite.

Nitpick: the Paperwhite is not backlit; it’s frontlit. Tablets, smartphones, etc. are backlit: the light shines up into your eyes. The Paperwhite and Voyage are frontlit: light shines down onto the reading surface.

Bit the bullet. Amazon says expected delivery is December 10th. Guess its selling better than the Amazon Fire Phone.

For me, yes. The backlighting (or frontlighting, whatever it is) is wonderful. It’s so nice to be able to read easily in the dark.

This is exactly where I am on the subject, minus having gotten a PaperWhite for $20 (how’d you manage that?!). I love my Kindle, use it all the time, and though I have no complaints about the PaperWhite I’m just intrigued by the upgrades to the Voyage. But I’m going to try to make myself wait for prices to come significantly down first.

I was gonna try and wait too Rodgers01. But ya know, I just got that itch

I have a Fire HD (I don’t recommend; it was a gift) and it has ads on the splash screen. One day, I noticed the ad was for a special limited time offer, new Paper White for $20. I jumped on that sucker. It was the only time I’ve ever gotten a decent deal from one of those ads.

I, too, am going to wait to see if the price on the Voyage comes down. I can’t imagine not having the lit up screen; when I had a keyboard Kindle, I used to have to mess with those clamp reading lights and I could never get the glare off. I hated those things.

Gah - stop tempting me!!

That’s an amazing deal to get - wow.

I had a clamp-on light for a first generation Kindle, too. The lit up screen is such an improvement.

Thinking about upgrading from my Kindle Keyboard, now that they’ve backed away from the touchscreen for page turns. ISiddiqui, does the page turn bar on the left allow you to forward nav, or only backward?

Yep. Pagepress allows you go forward or back on both sides. The long line on either side is to go forward while the dot above the lines on either side are to go backwards.

I’m coming from a Kindle 2, so the resolution bump is absolutely fantastic! Though I had to retrain myself as to how to hold the device - the Kindle 2 has a massive bezel while the Voyage’s bezel is much smaller. It took a day or two, but I think I’m good - the lightness of the device also has to be factored in (I was worried if I was really holding it tight enough because I couldn’t really feel its weight!).

Love the frontlighting! The auto brightness can be a bit low in the dark at times, but that’s easily changeable.

Well Rodgers01, now that I have your attention, here’s an out of the box review.

Christ Rodgers01! Are you getting a boner???

I can’t even stand up from my desk.

Well, pull the trigger, my good man.
