Anyone up for a discussion of Sex.....(and the City)

For three and half years, my girlfriend watched Sex & the City religiously, even bought the seasons on DVD as they were released. I always bitched and moaned about watching it, but in order to spend time with her, I’d do my Sunday-evening duty.

Well, the gf is now an ex, so there really is no reason for me to continue watching this drivel.

And yet…I cannot…look…away…

So since I no longer have my gf to discuss new episodes with, and since I’d set fire to my scrotum before mentioning to my friends that I watch this show, I keep hoping for a thread to pop up here, but alas, nothing’s materialized.

Is anyone watching this show anymore?

If so…

Thoughts about Berger? Is he the one for Carrie? I got a feeling Big’ll be back in the picture before too long. He seemed pretty hurt when Carrie told him she was with someone. I also heard a rumor:

Big ends up in the hospital really sick with some disease or another.

Thoughts about Samantha’s boyslut? I heard he’s going to be around for most, if not all, of the season, soooo could she end up falling for this guy? With possibly something more than just wild fantasy fucks?

I quite frankly am glad this is the last season, as most of the stories are getting played out, and the humor and format are really getting strained. I did laugh out loud when Miranda’s date confessed he had diarrhea last night. And Carrie’s date with the guy with a sty on his eye from a few shows back was pretty funny too. Mainly, I think the only part of the show that’s interesting anymore are the mishaps involving the various men-- mainly because I can either relate to the guys or ‘feel their pain.’ I’m really getting a little tired of the whole deep “philosophy” of Carrie’s columns.

And finally, is it just me or is Carrie’s taste in clothes getting worse? There’s no way I’d ever date a woman who dressed like she does. She looks like a damn fool half the time.

Happy

Carrie’s taste in clothing could not possibly get any worse.

By the way, has SJP had a nose job? Her nose in profile looked distinctly swoopy where it didn’t used to.

Swoopy?

I mean, you know, in profile it kinda swooped where it used to jut. Maybe I was just distracted by her usual sex-clown wardrobe.

What is it about Sex and the City that makes it embarrassing for you to admit that you watch the show?

The show still sparkles for me. The writing has remained consistently good and the acting is quite reasonable. What’s not to love? I love seeing what Carrie wears just because it is outrageous. But she has started more than one fashion trend.

I like Berger more after this week’s show. But I’m still carrying a torch for Aiden.

[slight hijack] We spent the evening of the Fourth of July boating at Riverfront Park to see the fireworks display. I could hear the MC but not clearly and I couldn’t see him at all. The program was broadcast over A&E and repeated several times. So when we got hom, I turned the tube on and there was the MC. It was Big! (or a least Chris Noth).[/hijack]

I don’t think that Big is good for Carrie. So far, Berger is.

The one couple that must connect before the end of the season is Miranda and Steve. Yet it would be a sell out to have more than one or two of the women marry.

What about Charlotte? After her colossal f-up this week (yikes, the SET THE DATE screech-a-thon was pretty traumatizing to me), what’s she gonna do with her Jewishness? Is Harry coming back in the picture, or is this going to be another one of those hangups for her now?

I think the biggest problem I have with this show now is that at first, all the ladies’ guy problems were somewhat amusing. But now it’s almost painful to see the desperation in Charlotte. And Miranda, too. At least Berger gave Miranda some helpful insight into the mind of the Dating Man last night.

And Samantha’s sexual promiscuity used to be sorta funny, too. But now, it’s getting a little old. Although, it’s still fun to watch all of her contorted coitus.

Re: Carrie’s wardrobe. I’m glad Berger said something about that stupid little hat last night, but if that was my girlfriend, I don’t think I could’ve waited til the end of the date to do so, though.

On preview, in regard to Zoe: For me, admitting I watch this show is sort of akin to admitting I’ve seen “Stepmom” (I have) or “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” (I haven’t). It’s a chick show. But I am probably being a little more dramatic than I need to be. I mean, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t set fire to my scrotum in order to keep my Sunday night viewing habits a secret.

The fact that it is a chick show-- and from a female perspective-- is infuriating to me while at the same time very intriguing. The show has it’s fair share of “Men are boobs”-type dialogue, but it’s also interesting to see how the womens talk when guys aren’t around.

Happy

I don’t know if SJP has had a nose job, but based on that profile toward the end of last night’s ep I’d say she’s had every fat cell surgically removed from her face. I usually don’t comment about the personal appearance of performers (unless they’re hot guys of course) but Jeebus! She looked awful! Sunken dark-circled eyes, bony face, big nose (swoopy or otherwise). What the hell is she doing to make herself look so bad, and how can we get her to stop it?

When I was in high school (15-16) I was in the apprenticeship program for the Showboat Majestic, an offshoot of the Music/Theater program at the University of Cincinnati. Sara Jessica Parker was a small child that took acting lessons in the preparatory program (Mini-Mummers.) She played one of the children in the production of South Pacific we did that summer. She looked exactly the same way then as she does now. Not an ounce of fat on her!

I don’t think she has had a nose-job. She looks great. Through the years she has really developed as an actress and seems to have “grown into” her looks.

I think that the far out clothing on the show is fun. I wish that people in real life dressed with as much pizazz. Conformity is boring!

The whole show is a fluffy piece of mind candy. The show is outrageous and entertaining, yet they have created characters you really care about.

Great show!

I’ve never seen it. When do you suppose we in the poor reception areas will get to see it replayed on UPN?

The cable company is giving us a deal and we’re getting HBO (and digital cable) for free for a while. I’m not sure how long it lasts, but I have a huge crush on Kristin Davis and I am not at all ashamed to admit I watch the show. I have no idea what’s going on and I don’t pay close attention, but I think Kristin is pretty so there you have it.

I’ve watched SaTC since the beginning and have really enjoyed it – for the most part. One thing that bugs me above all else is when Carrie wears some off-the-wall outfit or accessory that most people would not be caught dead in. For example, that hat! Horrible! So much worse than a Scrunchie, IMHO of course.

Charlotte, while still charmingly naive and innocent, shows great potential to become a shrew. Her hissy fit about the t.v., followed by the “set a date” screaming fit makes me wonder if Charlotte will soon lose her painfully chipper attitude and become bitter. Could be interesting.

As for Berger, I think that he makes a good match for Carrie, as long as he can overlook her accessories and sappy column questions. I still want to see Big in the picture (I think he’s such a cutie! ) but to have Carrie indulge in another boinkfest with her ex while dating the “Perfect Guy” would be redundant.

I’m very curious to see the final episode. Any ideas on what the writers might come up with for the big finale?
