I’m a new player to chess and am having a hard time finding someone to play against. I play against the computer but after awhile that just gets old.
I have been given a preliminary rating of 850, but after a number of games against the computer I think it runs around 750. I know the majority of the rules and all the moves but I’m crap at mid-game and end-game.
I would goto a chess club but I don’t always have time so I thought email would be better. I would only be able to play from work so weekends would be out for the most part. I’m also pretty sure I’m going to look strange for having a chess board on my desk.
So if anyone wants to play let me know. Or if others want to join in that’s fine too. And now I think I’m going to hide in a corner as I think I have just asked for it.
I’ll play, but I warn you, I’m not very good and you will in all likelihood win. Go ahead and make the first move and I will respond. I go to work very early in the AM CDT. so I should be back mid-afternoon.
Edward, I’d rather pick on someone my own size. However, if you’d like to discuss the rules you’re having trouble with, I’ll gladly help. And if you and Baker want to mail me the score of your game when you’re done, I could offer some (possibly useful) comments. I’m no giant, but I did grade into the 120s (BCF) - I’m not sure what that equates to in your system - back when I was playing regularly.
I haven’t played against anyone but my (8 year old) son in at least 10 years. I never did learn strategy, I always played by the seat of my pants. It will take me a while to get my chess legs back.
