Anyone using handbrake,I got a question

When converting to an mkv container, the output file adds a dash one to the end, before the mkv, can that be eliminated ?

Edit the file name in explorer?

Moved Cafe Society --> IMHO.

This is a total WAG, but is there any other file in the directory with the same name except for extension? Possibly the source file, so file.source converts to file-1.mkv? Maybe first rename file.source, or write file.mkv to a different directory.

Adding the -1 seems to be a feature. Encode MyRecording.mpg and it wants to create MyRecording-1.m4v or mkv. I just assumed its a weird Apple thing. Just like the m4v instead of mp4 is a weird Apple/Itunes thing. Handbrake is developed on an Apple/Mac and migrates to the PC.

Apple guys. IIRC a file extension doesn’t make a file unique? MyRecording.mpg MyRecording.m4v in the same folder won’t work on a Mac? MyRecording-1.m4v is required IIRC?

No. The extension is definitely part of the name as far as uniqueness is concerned on OS X. The application adding the “-1” is not technically necessary.

Thanks for the replies, i was wondering if there was something i missed, but it appears not. I usually edit it out before hitting start.

Have you updated your version recently? I know it used to do this but reading this thread made me realize I haven’t seen it in a while. I use the linux version but I’d assume the same for Windows.

I will check and see, right now i am using 9 point something
