I don’t know when the show first aired, but I caught it around midnight last night as I was going to bed. Actually, I only caught the last hour of the 2 hour show.
First I see the British guy who has the Memento disease. Well, more severe I think, I came in half way into his bit. But he can’t remember even the very recent past. Like, 10 minutes past. But he talks perfectly fine and knows how to play piano. Fascinating story, good bits by Brain Experts.
Then there was a segment on how the brain relates to sports. How Tiger seemingly can shut down his frontal lobe to concentrate on a putt. How the brain regulates a basketball player getting pumped up for a down and dirty game of hoops, then tries to slow it down for a free throw. Again, good bits by Brain Experts.
And then. Oh boy. And then John Edward (the scam artist, not politician…maybe not clear enough…) I had never seen him interviewed, but he went on with his mumbo jumbo bout how he doesn’t always get full chunks of information. How he doesn’t “hear” the voices in his head, he “feels” them in his frontal lobe.
They had 2 experts to go along with this segment. One was a fucking quack, the other was a fucking maniac. Sorry, allow me to clarify. One was a researcher who gave some pseudo-scientific shit about how Edward hears the dead. He even had a SOOPER SIENTIFIK STUDEE done to show how SOOPER SIKIK HE IS!! In which the History Channel Narrator (same as The Universe Narrator, I believe) says he was right 80% of the time!! Then we see a shot of, I believe, Skeptic Magazine. “Great,” I thought, “Now we can hear how this is all bullshit.”
WRONG!
Remember “expert” number 2, the fucking manic? He goes on about how in physics there is a theory about how EVERYTHING is connected, like, in a metaphysical sense, MAAAAAAAAAN! And there MAY be a similar thing going on with Edward and his psychicatude. But the BEST part: He uses The Force as his metaphor. That’s fucking right, folks! The same Force as seen in the fictional Star Wars universe. He then goes on to say that ESP will be proven within 20 years. 20 years from now I hope they interview him again.
And that was it, as far as this segment went. Not a SINGLE FUCKING REBUTTAL!
I then switched to the end of the Botswana Top Gear episode and drifted into slumber.
Anyone who saw it and is more familiar with the so called “experts” they used, and who wasn’t half asleep, if you could help with the details I missed, it’d be much appreciated.
I’m not sure if this if this is a CS, GD, or Pit thread. So, I figured I’d start here, then let the mods use The Force…I mean…ESP to determine where it really belongs.
