Anyone out there watching Lobster Wars? It’s on the Discovery Channel, and is basically “Deadliest Catch” except with Lobster fishermen out of MA & RI on George’s Bank.
For any of you who did watch it last week, what did you think of the part when they had the sick cameraman on the boat? The reason I ask is that the Captain, Grant Moore, is a good friend of my brother’s, and he’s apparently unhappy with the way he was portrayed on the episode. He was genuinely concerned about the guy, and was trying to get him medical attention ASAP. He’s worried that the editing made it appear that his main goal was to avoid making the 40 hour round trip back to port and losing that time running pots. He’s very unhappy that they aired the part where he said “I just don’t want this BLEEPer to die on me.”
I’ve caught parts of it. Compared to Deadliest Catchm it seems curiously small-scale; like those boats couldn’t possibly bring in enough lobsters to feed a hungry nation.
muldoonthief, any way you can find out the exact dates that the filming, especially the storm, took place?
I think the captain looked like he was doing all he could. God bless the USCG for all that they do, especially in what appeared to be pretty nasty conditions.
It wouldn’t have been as dramatic if they had given him a generous cut, but that seems to be the case in so many of the reality shows (actual reality, rather than the tired ‘put 2nd rate, washed up stars in a house’ reality.)
These shows remind me over and over why I’m glad that I don’t have to do that kind of work…
I didn’t see the next episode after he got sick, so I missed the rescue episode. Somebody spoil it for me. Did the cameraman make it?
Oh, and FTR, I didn’t think the captain looked bad at all. So you can tell him a random stranger on the internet doesn’t think he’s an @sshole for the clip they showed.
Robot Arm, I’ll try to find out when these episodes were filmed. I agree, the boats aren’t nearly impressive as the ones in Deadliest Catch - I think it’s a combination of better weather and year-long fishing, instead of a 2 week lobster season, so they can afford to go back to port a lot more often.
TroubleAgain, they called in the Coast Guard, and after 2 tries got him into a chopper where they put in an IV to rehydrate him, and brought him back to the mainland. By then, he was able to walk off the chopper. He recovered fully.
Just heard back - the series was filmed between Thanksgiving & Christmas 2006. The rescue (which occurred at the tail end of the storm) was on December 7, a day which will live in infamy.
