Honestly, we’ve been past acceptable caution and into something else for quite some time. Do I feel that this will increase safety? No. Do I feel that any of the added measures since 9-11 have increased safety? Not really. It is my opinion that they are just for show, mostly. To make some folks* feel* safer.
But really, is getting mad about this going to change anything?

That’s actually my problem. It appears to me that we’re passing up more effective measures that feel more invasive (specifically, national ID cards/standardized driver’s liscenses) while adopting plans that in practice seem unlikely to pass rough cost/benefit tests.
Oh yeah, and what about those chemical factories and (to a lesser extent) those ports?
Gut reactions are a sorry substitute for detailed analysis, even in the area of privacy.

Anger is seldom a constructive emotion. It’s better to be, “Alerted” or in the right circumstances, “Awakened”.
