So yesterday I could not get on the internet, I was receiving an error message 46-npqe. I received several suggestions, none of which worked, unfortunately, and spent a couple of hours on the phone with AOL again last night. They had me delete everthing AOL connected, and reload with AOL 7. Now I can get to the aol homepage, I can even check my email, but I cannot go anywhere else, I get the page that says could not connect to the website, no matter where I try to go ouside of AOL. I called them back, and now they claim it is an internet explorer issue, not their fault. I don’t believe them. Any advice?
Are you unable to reach any websites? I have an ongoing problem that secure pages will come up with the unable to connect message. I can get to regular webpages, but if I try to get to my logon for a CC or bank it won’t go through. If I reboot, it will work, but only for a limited time. I’m of the thought now that some website I visit is loading something that makes this happen. I actually haven’t a clue why it happens.
If you can get to an un-secure site, then download Firefox and see if you can connect that way. I usually can’t though once my issue has risen it’s head.
Sorry I’m not of more help. I just figured you needed an answer. I hate it when my posts drop into oblivion without any replies! Maybe this can be a bump and someone will factually answer this!
Thanks, yeah I hate it too, and also dislike posting my own response that says “bump.” Anyway, I cannot reach ANY website, including those without security. I have tried msn, cnn, espn, straightdope, etc, and get nowhere at all.
With a problem like this one approach is to rule out possibilities. Can you use the browser built into the AOL client?
Do you have other browsers installed? If not you could try Firefox or others to see if a software issue or some sort of network config issue. If you can use the AOL browser you should be able to do this, but if you can’t then you may be stuck.
Can you ping web servers? Press START, then Run, and type in CMD. You will get a command window. Type in a domain like
and see if you get results. If you get replies, then you are connected to the Internet.
Unfortunately I don’t have advice as to how to resolve the problem if you’re able to narrow it down.
Do you get your buddy list when you sign on to AOL 7.0?
