The most recent poll I could find in a cursory look online was from August 15 and gave Netanyahu a 29% approval rating. And yes, Bibi’s a douche, but he’s *our *douche. I’d be happy to see him go, but that doesn’t mean other world leaders get to talk about him like that - like it or not (in my case, definitely not), he’s the guy who has to represent my country on the international stage.
I miss Sharon. Nobody trifled with Sharon.
Oh, and Einat Wilf has a PhD in Political Science from Cambridge and is unusually attractive for a politician. She’ll be forgiven for knowing who Machiavelli was.
I’ve bee reading a bit of “news” and comments from the Conservative side, and they seem to be running amok with Obama bashing on this. But it’s a kick by Sarko, Obama’s response is all blasé, definitely not insulting.
They’re really grasping at anything to fuel their hate (and what happened to French bashing?! In the mid 2000s, this would have given us Bordeaux poured into the sewers, today nothing. This country is heading for a disaster if it’s gonna forego all of its greatest traditions).
When Bush was down to ~30% Americans would have been totally okay with it if a foreign dignitary called him a bad name. I would be have been okay with it if it happened at pretty much any point, for that matter.
Remember thoguh that directly comparing a US approval rating to a US approval rating doesn’t take in to account the vast differences in the US and Israeli electroal systems. Netanyahu’s Likud only polled ~22% of the popular vote in 2009 (a little under 1% behind the most popular party Kadima led by Livini).
That said no time for Netanyahu, I don’t see how anyone can be that upset that a man who makes obsfuscation a central plank in his diplomatic strategy is called a liar. The only thing nice I can think to say about him is that he’s not Liebermann. As much as Netanyahu has a severe credibilty problem in the eyes of World leaders, I think the vast majority would rather deal with the Israeli PO’s office than the Foreign Office.
No outrage around these parts. What you are experiencing is probably manufactured outrage by a select group of incestuous lobbyist and talking heads with an agenda trying their best to make it appear the whole world share their sentiments when most people don’t give a damn. Tell them to shut the fuck up. Most everybody else does.
Well that was a sad attempt at exaggeration (or even a whoosh) then.
Try this:
“In a year’s time, the Florida Jewish voters will remember this devastating slight, this foul insult, this horrific insult by Obama, because their fury burns with the passion of 10,000 suns, and will never, never go away.”
