Apple Airport Wireless. (Airport Extreme)

Okay so I’ve moved into a new place, and while awaiting for the cable company to connect my internet, I’ve noticed a few in the clear wireless networks around my apartment. Well, needless to say I really needed to use the Internet, so I started fooling around with them.

Originally I had only used my laptop which is an older windows xp machine with SP2 and a generic wireless card (its a b I think) and I noticed that it could connect to several networks, but I could only get Internet from… Lets c all them A and B. But normally I’d only get one bar of service from A and B was even worse. I could connect to C as well, but there was no internet for some reason.

So then I bring out my Mac Mini recently and tried it. It was more finicky in finding the network. However once it found the network, the signal was much stronger. I have no idea why this would be the case. I connected to C and it was almost at full service, but then still no connectivity. Then I connected to B and it had much higher service.

Anyone know the ins and outs of Apple wireless and why it connects less often but gets better signal? The Airport Extreme card is actually inside my Mac mini to boot!
