Apple iPod touch users...some help

Ok…so, a friend of mine has gotten a used iPod touch. What he wants to do is to rename the thing and also use his own iTunes account to download new stuff. We have gone into iTunes and can see the old name of it but I don’t see any where to rename the thing. Also, when we use the device on my WiFi network and attempt to download stuff it automatically comes up with the old users account info…I don’t see where to change this so that it has my friends account.

Any help here would be appreciated. I’ve never used one of these before and am not even familiar with the older iPods (I have a Zune).

I would imagine you can just hook it up to your friend’s computer and “restore” it to the factory defaults. Should wipe the memory (including firmware, so you’d wanna update it) and allow you to rename it/create a new account or whatev.

a quick google search came up with these links:

Those should deal with everything from restoring it to reformatting it to changing it from Mac to PC. Hope that helps

Well, was hoping to do it without blowing it away (it has some software on it that my friend wants to keep). I’ll check it out that…thanks!

Ah well…too late. I blew the thing away and lost all the apps and songs on it. C’est la vie.

The songs are lost if you don’t have them backed up on the computer, but you can download the apps again. They are tied to your (his) iTunes account.

Yeah but they were on the old owners iTunes account. No worries, it was only a couple of games. My friend has his own songs on his old iPod so I’ll figure out tomorrow how to transfer em off of the old one and onto the new one.

Thanks for the help everyone!
