Re-naming an iphone

I am in the habit of bestowing names upon the more important inanimate objects in my life. My car, for example, is a white station wagon lovingly called Moby. My checkbook (truly neglected in this age of online banking), goes by Kafka. Various other examples abound, but I digress…

When I received my iphone some months back (yes, it’s an older and slower model, just like my car), I christened it “Kizarvexius’ Phone”. Not very creative, but it served the purpose.

As time and tide have run their course, I have elected to change the name of my phone. Noting the insidious way that it has taken over my life, and being the classical history geek that I am, I’ve decided to call it Sejanus. The only trouble is I haven’t been able to figure out how to do it.

Will this procedure require permission from the Senate? Or can someone instruct me on how to pull the necessary strings behind the scenes?

99% sure you can do this in iTunes. Once your iPhone is connected and iTunes is up you see the device with your name connected there. Just rename it as you see fit as you would any other file.

It worked!

I tried looking under every option screen I could find, both on the iPhone interface, and in iTunes. As you suggested, I simply clicked on the name of the phone over on the left where it is listed as a “DEVICE”. Done.

My iPhone may now continue with its regularly scheduled usurpation, and is content that it is now known by its true name.
