I prefer a good apple to a good orange to a mediocre orange to a mediocre apple.
Bananas bruise and get nasty in lunch boxes. I never pack them.

Huh! In this discussion everybody seems to be comparing apples with oranges.
That’s just bananas!
Most Americans call a hand of bananas a “bunch”, but an actual bunch is much larger, 20 or 30 pounds.
My understanding is that on average, humans eat more bananas than monkeys. That must be right, as I cannot remember the last time I ate a monkey.
I agree! I’ve rarely had a bad banana. If I did it was because it was either too green or too ripe. Although a few months ago, I accidentally grabbed a bunch of ORGANIC bananas. If that is what all organic bananas taste like, no thanks. They were very bland. The only bad thing about taking a banana anywhere is that they get so beat up. I am very careful with my bananas just taking them from the store to home. Pears are another fruit that’s hard to transport. By the time it gets to work (15 min) it looks like it’s been beaten with a stick.
Apples would be second and then oranges. Oranges are too messy and sticky. A Clementine is not too bad. Apples and oranges are a crapshoot. They can both be tasteless, an apple can be mealy, and an orange can be dried out.
I think an issue is that bananas can look horrible while still being fine to eat. All of the bad appearance is confined to the peel, which is not the part we eat.
I just had a banana. Its peel had huge brown areas on it and the stem was almost black. But I peeled all that off and the banana inside was fine. However, I would never have tried to eat an apple or an orange that looked that bad.
