Oh, you golden, sweet, mushy foodstuff,
your very apple-ness brings back a million memories
of a nearly-forgotten childhood.
How I praise thy palatable pulchritude!
Your lack of unnatural colors, preservatives, and
artificial sweeteners is a harbinger
of my good health, and of certain wealth.
Bless thee, oh Holy Mott’s! May thy cinnamon-ed yumminess last
for millions of millenia.
No I am not trying to avoid the massive, steaming pile of calculus homework currently polluting my desk.
Every fall, my family gets a bunch of apples from New England, and we spend a week or two making applesauce. Boiling, grinding… best stuff ever. I love the way the house smells; apples and cinnamon… yum.
The new Grinch applesauce is pretty cool too. It’s watermelon flavored.

I do believe that my kids and I could survive quite nicely from now until Christmas existing SOLEY on Grinch merchandised food, beverages, clothing, medical equipment, personal care products, and the occasional Pokemon Gogurt

You know what is better than applesauce? A whole bunch of nuthin’!
A bit of free verse:
Applesauce, sweet and tender
cool, yet yellow
you are my temptress
I bow before you
enshrined in my fridge
twist the lid
and guzzlesnuzzle
ah, redemption!
(sorry, i’m at work and would REALLY like some applesauce.)

My sister makes homemade applesauce, and says it’s really easy. If I remember correctly, she peels the apples, cooks 'em in a slow cooker all day until mushy, then runs them through a Foley food grinder. Quite awesome stuff. If anyone wants the actual directions (with quantities, types of apples, etc) I’d be happy to ask her. Talk about your great smelling house when THAT stuff is cooking! Hoo-boy!
Mmm applesauce, one of my favorite desserts, I can (and quite often do) eat a whole container at once. Home made applesauce is quite easy to make. Put some apple juice in a sauce pan, add chopped apples, a little bit of sugar and some cinnamon if you desire. Cook it until it turns to mush and then take a hand mixer and mush it. It shouldn’t take more than half an hour to make. You can use whatever varieties you like. The softer apples tend to work better then the harder ones because the harder one seem to have a bit mealier texture.
I think I know what I’ll have for dessert tonight…
What I want to know is, on the larger jars WHY DOES THE NECK HAVE TO BE SO GODDAMN SMALL?!? You can never get the last of it without getting applesauce all over your hand.
Mmm, applesauce over fresh hot gingerbread with a dollop of whipped cream…
