Apps to ID a song...no smartphone, just PC.

OK, apparently there is an app whereby one takes a song, or a snippet of a song, hooks it to some website, or some such, plays it, and the song is identified. IIRC, whenever some good Doper did it for me, it was via smartphone.
Questions: What is the app called, and, is there one similar for PC?
I don’t have a smartphone, and I don’t see getting one for quite a while.

Shazam is the big name. Looks like they have a Windows 8 version for PC:

Soundhound does that too, it can be downloaded to PC according to the website.
