April Fool's website pranks

Ravelry (a knitting social networking site) has put funny hats on everyone’s avatars. Actually, not all of them are hats. Some people have monkeys or parrots sitting on their heads.

It seems that the Motley Fool is getting out of stocks.

The hilarious blog Stuff White People Like has a story that they’ve been sold to Target, who will use it as a promotional tool. Loved that one.

I sent this e-mail out this morning:

It went over better than I thought it would.

I just realized now that xkcd redirecting to Questionable Content is likely an April Fool’s Day prank, as is the Homestar Runner Wiki Featured Article being a bunch of scrambled text.

Also, I got a chuckle out of

Ask Metafilter keeps changing background colour on me. That’s all I’ve got, other than the nifty links posted here.

Car and Driver put up a story that GM had let the copyright on the Oldsmobile lapse and Toyota bought it, and is planning to produce cars under the Oldsmobile name.
Story here.

The Warcraft website, in anticipation of the expansion set to be released in the fall, has added a “new hero class”, the bard. Think World of Warcraft plus Guitar Hero. Went to fire up WoW today, began to read it and nearly shit… but then I clued in.

ESPN now covers politics.

KTAR, a newstalk station here was running a news story all day about how to help with the projected 1.2-billion shortfall, the legislature rammed thru at midnight last night, a bill to convert the local freeways to toll roads, effective tomorrow (meaning April 2). It was going to be cash-only, exact change until they could get the equipment installed in a few months.

The tolls were going to be the highway number, so $1.01 for the 101, $2.02 for the 202 and only 51¢ for the 51 making exact change a bit tougher than it had to be. They mentioned the Governor signing the bill in her PJs and had an interview with some legislator from the Flagstaff area who said it was the perfect compromise, “Conservatives don’t drive on freeways much and the liberals want to get us all on bicycles, anyway. I voted for it because we don’t have any freeways up where I live.”

I wasn’t listening during the day, but the afternoon drive guy had folks calling in about it at 3pm, playing it straight. It wasn’t until about 5:30pm until they changed the website to admit it was a joke. I dunno when they admitted it on the air.

According to Gamespot, the Rock Band game is coming out for Sony’s Playstation Portable.

Lol. Madden AARP 09.

Another message board I sometimes visit had a few changes. Some of the better-known posters had their user names changed to things like Austin Powers, Moby, and Bill Clinton. Various forum names have been changed to something more humorous. A few subjects that are against board policy now have their own forums.

I figured that things would be back to normal this morning. Not so.

IsoHunt rickrolled me.
Damnit.

You may like the StarCraft2 joke as well. I give you the Tauren Marine
