Are any new gas cans worth a damn?

Since this isn’t the pit, I’ll just ask for recommendations for gas cans. I’ve tried the ones that have a slide on the side that you have to hook onto whatever you’re filling and it allows the gas to flow (in theory) and I’m not a fan.

If you have a gas can that you like, and a link, please share.

These are great:

I bought one at Tractor Supply Company but they sell them other places as well as Amazon.

I really like these cans. I use them for diesel for my tractor, I use a little harbor freight hand clamp to hold the button down. I used to always spill a bunch of fuel when I used the old cans. Much less spillage now.

The no spill cans are great! Easy to use and almost impossible to spill when filling something.

I use any gas can and one of these replacement spouts.

Available at your local hardware or big box home store.

I have one of those, as well. Works brilliantly, and unlike the three or so other “next generation” gas cans I’ve had, it’s easy to use.

I love my surecan:

I have one of the Sure Cans as well. Not a bad design, but I have managed to shoot gas on my face by not making sure the pressure in the can has been vented.

Yes, These! Pricey but well worth the money, IMHO.

I have one of these, too. I was happy with the simpler old ones, but this one is easy to use and works fine. It was pricey, but the cheaper one was obviously going to be a pita to actually use. I got it at the local hardware store.

That is my view as well. Never had a problem with old cans, had plenty of problems w/ new ones (unsure what brands). I’m firmly in the camp of, "It wasn’t broke, so I’m not interested in fixing it.

Ditto. I had a 6 gallon can for my boat that had one of those stupid safety spouts. It took forever to pour six gallons into the tank. Replacement spout and add a vent hole and …voila! A quick transfer of fuel and save nearly $1/gallon over the marina fuel.

I’ve tried that but I must have purchased metric cans or something because the caps haven’t fit well.

Eagle Safety Can.

Don’t get a cheap version with a plastic funnel for a spout. Mine has a metal actuator arm, try to find one of those.

Plastic doesn’t rust. My metal one did. I still have my plastic one bought 15 years ago (without all that nonsense on it), still all original except for the vent cap which I lost. I hope to get another 15 out of it, but yes it stays out of the sun.

I bought one of the new cans, and never liked it.

We go to a family property up in MI. In one outbuilding there was a pile of old plastic gas cans of all shapes/size. Probably 30 of them. Picked out a nice 1G, and I’m good to go.

I’ve had my can at least 10 years now and it’s not rusting.

The one I have pours as fast as the old one. Other than being pricey, it’s a very nice, and completely functional gas can.

I’ve never had a metal can rust on me. Just basic care is all that’s needed. The oldest one I have must be over 30 years old.

The parts that go are always the spout and vent plugs, for me.

I suspect plastic in the sun will suffer eventually. Not that you should have gas cans in the sun. Metal in a damp environment will suffer eventually.
