Are apes our evolutionary comrades?

Isn’t the idea of an evolutionary comrade kind of an oxymoron? Evolution is a process of competition not comradeship. Sure there might be some alturism issues involved, but I do not see how apes could possibly be our comardes in process of evolution.

Is Mr. Pozas full of shit?

Aha! It’s that slippery slope, resulting from same-sex marriages! Next thing ya know, they’ll be outlawing bullfights!

I spelled evolutionary wrong in title. Could this please be fixed?

Well, I’d say all terrestrial life forms are our evolutionary comrades, since the evidence is we’re all descended from the same ancestor.

How is it a factual question?

As to the OP, our lineages evolved together for a long, long time separating only a handful of millions years ago. I would say that it makes closer comrades of great apes than, for example, canary. Or even hedgehog.

Pozas might better have said “cousin” rather than “comrade.” However, since this is obviously a figure of speech, rather than any kind of factual allegation by Pozas, this is probably better off in IMHO.

Animals obtain rights the same way humans do-- by agreement of the humans who have jurisdiction over them. The only difference is they don’t get a say in the matter.

Done.

When they can actually ask for human rights, in a language we humans understand, then it’s time to consider human-like rights. Until then, they are animals that do deserve some special protections, IMO.

I might call it a contradiction, but now everyone thinks “oxymoron” is the same thing.
