Oh My GOD B_P…that is exactly what I was trying to say in my previous post. Thank you for chiming in here. I was beginning to think I had caught that peculiar disease many Americans seem to suffer from, the conspiracy theory. What I’ve been trying to articulate for so long but haven’t been very good at in threads like this and the Affirmative Action debates is this very thing. It is definately in the best interest of someone that we start fighting amongst each other over college admissions, jobs, etc. again and divide them along racial lines. Conservative thinkers can delude themselves all they want about minorities and their ideology. Just because there are a handful of minorities who have profited from their divisionary tactics does not mean the the other 91% are buying what they are selling. Yep, I’m wondering who is actually going to profit from all of this vitriol. We know it isn’t our society, it’s just driving us farther apart and turning us into a nation of mercenaries disquised as human beings.
Thanks stuffinb and Izzy for your replies. I had to quote the above because of the misspelling of my handle. I chose an oddball name when I joined, and have seen a lot of misspellings, but this one is the best, because if you read it as written above, it sounds like “Flatus!”
Why do these arguments always have to be about the classical battle between blacks and whites? Do people forget that there are great deal of other minorities in this country? Asians, Hispanics(poised to be the biggest minority), Jews, Native Americans, blah blah blah. These arguments about who’s more racist have no credence because it’s something that can’t be measured or can be used against another frame of reference. There’s no racism Richter Scale All we have is conjecture and erroneous assumption. Numerical statistics don’t tell jack either because this is an educational and emotional issue that has historical roots too deep to fathom. If you truly want to explore this issue, don’t read a book or watch some mannequin on Dateline NBC, go out into the world and make some friends. Get some Mexican friends, get some Mexican-American friends, get some El Salvadorean friends, don’t forget your local Chilean-American community(you’ll just love how South Americans get along with eachother), get some Chinese friends, Japanese friends, Korean friends, Phillipino friends(Asian social politics I guarantee will fascinate you), their American immigrant counterparts will DEFINITELY have some unique perspectives. My fellow human beings, you ain’t seen nothin yet. I’m a Euro, South American, Asian mutt, and frankly, the epic battle between blacks and whites here just makes me laugh.
Quite a few posts in this topic focused on Black attitudes towards Jews and Asians.
This reminded me of a Washington City Paper article from a few weeks back.
Granted, it is the Black Panthers, and a lot of this seems to be due to their charasmatic leader, but the article showed significant support and sympathy from those not in the organization.
I love Washington City paper… it is where I first learned of that magical place, http://www.straightdope.com
Only stupid people are racist because they ignore the science that we are all, essentially, the same.
There are black racists and white ones and yellow ones etc. etc.
I went to school with black and asian people, it wasn’t an issue, i remember a teacher talking to us about ‘racism’ and us all looking a bit puzzled, like ‘er, what are they on about !’.
White people can’t dance, er, john travolta, er, er, he is black really you know…
Black people are stupid, er, well, except the ones that go to harvard and yale, er, yea, they are, er, er, ok they are black, but er,… er…
Asians are all smart and hard working except the ones that failed the exam, er, yea, right thats true, like…
