I have a gift certificate for The Gap and I want a plain ol’ jean jacket. They have none. I always thought they were a permanent fixture in American fashion, but they don’t carry one (at least not for women-folk). Who’s out of step; me or The Gap?
Well I’m in the UK so obviously fashion is different here but I haven’t really seen one (except ratty old ones on builders) for at least a decade, possibly more. OTOH 80s fashion seems to be making a big comeback so why not hang back on spending your voucher and wait for Gap to get up to speed?
If you are into non-classic jean jackets, there are other options, here is one in fact.
That’s a very cute jacket, but I really need a classic jean jacket. Sears has exactly what I’m looking for, and for a good price. But I really wanted to use this gift certificate. I wonder if I could just cash it in…I wanted to buy “Product Red” items, but all I found that was of decent quality was a v-neck shirt; the rest of it is crappy as far as I’m concerned.
Yes, they are pretty much “out”, as evidenced by the fact that they’re available at Sears.
(Hey, who am I to talk? I think Target actually has a lot of cute stuff. But it’s not fashion-forward, I’m well aware.)
Although, as zelie zelerton says, the 80’s are beginning to be strip-mined by fashion designers without an original thought in their head. Sorry. I misspelled “inspired”. So it’s possible you could be a trend setter if you wear one now. Or you could be a lame old guy. Really depends on how you carry it off.
Well, I’ve been accused of being both lame and old, but a guy? Nevah.
I like a jean jacket for puttering around in the yard, gathering firewood, or dashing to the store or whatever. It’s a perfect spring weight jacket.
I had a really cute one, but my friend admired it so I gave it to her.
The Gap web site has a cute cropped jean jacket, and a regular one. You might be able to use your gift card on the site, too.
I hope they’re not out. I have an old one that I dig out and dust off whenever I go back to the US or to northern Asia. Even the mountains in northern Thailand during the cool season. That’s my only cold-weather wear I still own.
FYI the jean companies make jean jackets - Levi, Lee, Wrangler.
I don’t think they’re “out”, but they’re certainly not “in”…I wear my irregardless, kinda like basic Levi’s jeans, which kids/fashionista’s these days think are totally archaic.
I ordered mine from Eddie Bauer about 10 yrs ago? Still ticking!
The “in” jean jackets would be tailored and cropped, perhaps w/ funky buttons, and unwearable as soon as it’s no longer “in”…
I’d buy the jacket at Sears, since it’s what you want, and save the cert.
Ah well, that’s okay. I’ve never worried about being “in.”
I don’t shop at The Gap but I see them as trendier than classic. I also see a denim jacket as more basic than classic.
Look here.
Do you have a Gap Outlet near you? I think I remember seeing some in the store. They might be in the men’s section but that stuff is sort of unisex.
I think you’re a couple of years too late. The Gap had a bunch of limited edition jean jackets when they came back in style around 03 or 04.
I thought they’d been out of style for a while–the only place I’ve seen anyone wear one since I was in elementary school is in the Degrassi: Next Generation opening.
Sorry, rockstar. They’re out.
They designed jean jackets for charity last season on Instant Star too. But that show is also Canadian. No sniggering about my viewing habits. Tim Rozon is hot.
Well, I, for one, refuse to give in. I’ll be wearing my basic style jean jacket until it falls apart, and considering it’s not even roughly worn yet, that’ll be awhile!!!
Fashion, be damned!!!
I know this isn’t the Gap but Old Navy has some. I got mine there and I love it! I don’t think they are out of style. One of our EA’s at the school wears her’s all the time.
