I saw this “band” do a Unplugged concert on MTV, and it seemed that the whole crowd was singing along for most of the songs. That’s not so unusual, but the singer was fully embracing it, not really singing much of the words into the mike at all. So the vocals were pretty much just the crowd. It was interesting, but a little strange.
Are all their concerts like this? And is this a good thing?
In sense they technically are. Everyone sang (including me) at the concert in Lancaster, PA I was at a little whike ago. Christopher Ender Carrabba stated in an interview that he wants the audience to be as much a part of the show as he is. At the Lancaster show, there were many times he stopped singing, held the mic into the audience and let us sing an entire verse and/or chorus while he played the guitar. It was very cool and one of the most enjoyable concerts I’ve ever been to…even though it was 98 dgrees in there.
I’ve heard from a bunch of people that a Dashboard Confessional concert is a glorified makeout party–“Everyone there was making out!” she said. It sounded very strange.
SmackFu–Snerk! on the “band” comment. Do the guys who play with Mr. Sensitive Brown Eyes every night ever get props from him, or is he the only member of “Dashboard Confessional”?

They were at the Weezer concert that I went to last Sunday night. The audience did do a LOT of the singing and the lead singer stopped for most of it to let the audience sing. I’ve never heard of them before and didn’t participate much in the ‘sing-a-long’.
i saw them at the Vagrant Tour last year, and it was pretty much a sing-a-long unless it was a new song or a song that most of the people weren’t very familiar with, in that case only a couple of rabid fans were screaming along with Chris…but regardless it’s a good time
when i saw them, most of the songs weer, indeed singalongs. at first this was off putting since i didnt know the songs. however i soon realized that i understood MORE of the lyrics than at most concerts whose songs i dont know
Ugh, DC. In addition to singing along at the concert, you will see people (esp. emo boys) crying along with the “emotional lyrics”. You will see people wearing shirts from camps they’ve never been to and sports teams that don’t exist. And the most insane level of whiny “nice guy” pretention in the world. Maybe I will take them to the Pit.
I was wearing a Sunny Day Real Estate I bought at a concert, had a metalic silver shirt tied around my waist, and black military cargo pants and a pair of Docs. I sure as hell didn’t cry at the show…not that anyone could have told if I was. The 98 degree temp had sweat waterfalling down my face.
However, in your defense Dragon, that stereotype does exist…but not in Lancaster where I saw the show. I did see a couple making out though.
