Why do I care if it helps me as long as I believe it will help others? I didn’t get any COVID relief checks, but I’m glad others did. I don’t have children but I happily pay school taxes.
Seems to me that most Democrats are still fighting the election of 1972.
Way to miss the point. This isn’t about your high moral altruism quotient. This is a message to every Democratic party member at every level to start singing from the same hymnal about what’s in it for the remaining 3/4 Americans who obviously don’t understand what’s in it for them. Won’t realistically convince everybody but it’s time to redouble the efforts and stay on message.
There is a new poll out of Biden vs Trump in 2024 for Iowa:
"In a hypothetical 2024 rematch, former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in Iowa by 11 percentage points, a new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows.
In 2020, Trump defeated Biden by about 8 percentage points, [carrying the state 53% to 45%]"
Contrast this to the previous two elections. For Iowa:
2008 Obama beat McCain 54% to 44%
2012 Obama beat Romney 52% to 46%
I think Democrats should obsess about Trump because I think Trump will be running again (and will probably win) in 2024–unless he has very major health problem or dies.
Is there any sane person out there who thought Iowa was a battleground state?
No. It’s time to pivot away from Trump.
Democrats have been and continue to be obsessed about Trump, going on 6 years now. The entire conversation has been an endless referendum on Trump and his supporters. If Democrats continue to behave this way, a 2022/2024 referendum on Trump is exactly what we are going to get.
Democrats don’t have that option. We’re not talking Bush Jr. retiring to his ranch to paint and ride horses. We’re talking about someone who, barring ill health, is likely to run again for the presidency, and who is going around the country holding rallies and endorsing his preferred candidates for office (not just on or two, but all over the country, for federal and state offices, legislators, executives, judges, etc.). That isn’t someone who can be ignored.
