I was reading an article on Snopes.com about a missing teenage girl. In the response, there was a link to a Facebook page set up by her mother. I’m not into the whole Facebook thing and don’t plan to be, so I can’t see the page without becoming a member. So, I’d like to know, is it possible to view Facebook pages without being a member?
It depends on the settings of the individual account. For example, I’m a member of Facebook, but all I can see is the name and picture on the profile. If I want to see more, I would need to be her friend. You can set up a page to be viewable by everyone, but I don’t know if that includes non-members.
depends how the operator of a particular page has set his/her privacy controls.
I googled a lawyer I know in Ontario the other day, and his Facebook page for the Bencher elections came up. Obviously, he wants everyone to know he’s running for Bencher, so he’s set the privacy restrictions low - I could open the page, without having Facebook open.
Other people may set their privacy restrictions really high, so you can’t see the page without asking to be Friended.
The owner controls settings which determine how public their page is. They can allow anyone to view it if they wish or hide it from everyone. Media articles often warn about posting photos of yourself doing stupid things at drunken parties, assuming that any potential employer would be able to see them. It’s not the case. Having said that, a lot of f/b users are ignorant of their page settings, to their detriment.
