Are Greenpeace activists paid for it?

Note: This is not intended to be a thread about the controversies surrounding the Greenpeace organization and its methods in general.

Greenpeaceactivists undertake quite extensive activities to prevent governments or corporations from doing something the organization opposes, or simply to get public attention. They’ve occupied oil storage platforms, they’ve cruised in the waters surrounding French nuclear test areas to prevent a detonation, they’ve climbed up power plant cooling towers, just to name a few examples. Surely this form of protest requires considerable preparation and planning, and carrying out these plans can sometimes take days or even weeks. Are the activists simply volunteers who joined the organization out of enthusiasm and sacrifice their spare time for it? Or does Greenpeace actually employ for these purposes?

Please note also that I’m not asking about administrative personnel working in Greenpeace’s offices; I’m pretty sure they have full-time employees for this.

I don’t know about any other levels but… some of the ones who come door to door soliciting contributions? Paid. I was one of them for one day. Answered an ad in a far-more-desperate time of my life.

None of us who showed up were environmentalist-activists, just folks needing a job. Quick training (like 15 minutes’ worth) on how to identify likely contributors (“Volvo drivers!”) and kinds of things to emphasize.

Commission only, no guaranteed income, balance of contribs minus the commissions to us went to Greenpeace.
