I can’t think of any car made in the last 10 years (at least) that won’t make it to 200k relatively trouble-free. Honda’s reputation for reliability was made during a time when the bar was spectacularly low. Fortunately, the other manufacturers have for the most part caught up now and so you have to look at individual models (and maybe even individual year) instead of making blanket statements about one brand being better than the other.
I should also state the ex-wife had a 2005 Accord for 4 years (don’t remember the mileage) and we had NO issues with it other than standard maintenance and the 2 deer she ran into…
I’m really particular about cars as I can seem to spot even the smallest issue with one and never once determined any kind of issue with it.
Not to be contrary, but I will be!
I would rather buy the last year of a model before a refresh. All the bugs are worked out. I’d be willing to bet most cars have more recalls in their first year than in later years.
I agree with this in general. When the 2007 MINIs came out, I wouldn’t have wanted one and the resulting Turbo fires, though rare, support this. They even had issues with the Turbo fires until the 2011’s, from what I heard from the dealer, although early 2011’s were the last ones affected. Looks like they finally managed to solve the issue in a little over 4 years.
To be fair, I believe there were 2 separate issues, one affecting 2007-2009’s (can’t recall that issue exactly), the other affecting all 2007-early 2011’s (which was due to a faulty cooling circuit board).
I had a 2012, so I was safe from this issue, but not safe from a kid turning left into me when I was going 40mph… OOF!
True, there may be a running change here and there between model changes, but they’re usually pretty rare and the typical driver will never know the difference. Unless, of course, it’s something big, in which case it would probably require a recall.
