I know they are used to help people fall asleep and stay asleep but are they used to reset a sleep schedule to make it more normal like 11-7 or are they just used on a short term basis to encourage sleep?
I was on Abien twice with a year in between. My doctor said that you would get me on a better sleep schedule. And it did. The first time, for a couple of months after the med was used up.
A year later, sleep problems ensued and was put on it again. Not only didn’t it put me on a better sleep schedule but, it didn’t act too much like a sleep aid like it did the first time.
Go figure.
AFAIK Versed (midazolam) is used principally in injection form for “twilight sedation” and is not available in an oral pill form. If it is, I don’t think it’s precribed commonly at all for sleep problems. The sleep benzodiazepines include Restoril (temazepam), Dalmane (flurazepam), Halcion (triazolam), and larger doses of anxiolytic BZDs such as Valium (diazepam), Xanax (alprazolam), Ativan (lorazepam) and the like.
But last I checked Versed was for surgical settings only.
Ambien can be used on a long-term basis as well in people with serious sleep problems.
