Hi all,
I bought a crystal deodorant stick that contains ammonium alum. Supposedly it’s a synthetic production of a naturally occurring salt.
I have been reading there is some discussion about the safety of aluminium in deodorants.
I have been reading that crystal deodorants have been used a long time and are fine, but also that the aluminium may be dangerous.
Now i’m confused
Can someone shed light on the facts?
Thanks
Chris
Sure. Regular antiperspirant and “crystal deodorant” both use aluminum salts to block the pores. Aluminum salts have been used for a long time and are fine. There was some concern at one point that aluminum might be related to Alzheimer’s disease, but it’s been shown that there is no connection between using aluminum-based deodorant and Alzheimer’s. Regular antiperspirant and “crystal deodorants” are basically the same thing, so if you like using the kind that looks like a hunk of rock, go ahead!
I sometimes get this feeling that if you really feel a need to ask then you should use it. It has nothing to do with the product but rather to do with your mindset. If you really, really feel a need to ask, don’t use it.
