With all the Pro Bowl substitutions, I got to thinking. I know that if you sub for a selected person, you are considered a Pro Bowler that year, so, due to the crazy stuff, David Garrard and Vince Young are Pro Bowlers this year. My question is, is Ben Roethlisberger a Pro Bowler? He was the first alternate, named after Brady dropped out, but then he too declined due to injury. He wasn’t selected initially, but was the first selected as a replacement. However, nowhere do I see him credited as a Pro Bowl selection this year.
I’m assuming that Manning, Brees, Brady and all the other originally selected people get to keep that achievement in their list of career stats, but something seems awfully wrong if David Garrard, Vince Young and Matt Schaub get that added to their list of achievements, while Roethlisberger, Palmer and such do not, though that had much better years and were even voted to have had better years as well.
