Are pregnant women beautiful? Why? (Ladies, too!)

I think pregnant women are beautiful; they seem to have a glow about them, and they bring out all my best chivalrous instincts; conversely, I think a woman who is unhappy about her pregnancy is tragic.

TANSTAAFL!

Ok, first was called a freak when I admitted that I wouldn’t like going to a spa for a facial and other such treatments. Now I am REALLY going to be called a freak: I think pregnant women are gross. They look all cute in their designer maternity clothes but I DO NOT want to see their naked bellies sticking out. It honestly makes me want to hurl. Apologies in advance to all the recently/currently pregnant women on the SDMB. I really despise children as well, so maybe it is all tied together.

There’s something so exaggeratedly feminine about the curves of a heavily pregnant body that it can be disturbing – everything seems to be being pushed to its limits, so to speak. It’s beautiful, but it’s also disconcerting.

>>I think pregnant women are beautiful; they seem to have a glow about them, <<

Exactly the words I used. I lied though. Because I wanted to get laid again sometime during my lifetime.
The more pregnant the less atractive.

Vestal, I couldn’t agree with you more. Every time I see a pregnant woman I have to restrain myself from hugging them!

I’m a happily-married heterosexual female so I’m not turned on by them, but I can appreciate their beauty. They’re almost always rosy-cheeked, rotund, shiny and cherubic…

Gots ta lub them pregnint wimmens.

Almost forgot.

Michelle, you’re a FREAK!

Well, the distended belly buttons are pretty gross, but pregnant women are pretty cuddly. The whole cumbersome-temporary-pot-belly thing is pretty cute.

Waaa! Everybody ignores me 'cept the Republicans!

Some women look gorgeous pregnant. My friend Robin just looks fabulous…she only gets pregnant in her belly. That sounds strange, I’m sure, but trust me…pregnancy GENERALLY affects the whole body (face, butt, legs, feet…) She just looks like she’s wearing a basketball under her shirt.

Are pregnant women beautiful? I sure as hell wasn’t. I was overweight to begin with, and when I started to show, I looked like I was gestating a small house. I also ended up with awful edema (swelling) in my feet and ankles…my legs looked like tree trunks. My face became perfectly round. My hair was lifeless. I got acne for the first time in my life.

Oddly, despite how horrifying I look when I’m pregnant, I can’t wait to do it again. It’s worth looking like shit for nine months when you’re holding this gorgeous little baby in your arms.

Ooh, ew, I’m getting mushy. FTR, Robin (the aforementioned beautiful-even-when-pregnant girl) says that “the glow” is nothing more than light reflecting off of all the excess oil that the body is producing. Pregnant women are just fortunate enough to have it romanticized rather than criticized because nobody wants to hurt a pregnant woman’s feelings.

My husband has a theory that when a woman is pregnant with a boy, she glows, and enjoys good health, good skin, and an easy pregnancy. OTOH, when she is carrying a girl, her skin is blotchy, and she suffers from morning sickness and a generally hard time of it.

Me, I think he’s full of it. There’s a 50-50 chance for each gender, and this is just one more silly guessing tool.

I’m with those who think pregnant women look good. Something about the miracle of a new life growing inside of them gives them a radiance.

I FELT prettier and more feminine when I was pregnant, at least until the last month or so. Go figure. There was something very – mystical – about being “fruitful” that affected my attitude and personality, which I think always underlie attractiveness anyway.

Had a partner at the firm I was working at when I was pregnant the third time come on to me one day with the line “Pregnant women really turn me on.”

If you’re beautiful, you’re probably beautiful pregnant.
If you’re ugly, you’re probably not pregnant.

Best Miss Anne Elk voice:

My theedy is that pregnant women often seem beautiful because it is one time in their lives when they have “permission” not to worry about how they look. Their clothes are comfortable and fit (at least after you get to go into real maternity clothes), they get to eat nice big meals of real food and everybody smiles at them. Who wouldn’t be more beautiful with that kind of treatment?

I loved the way I looked pregnant! I would stand in front of the mirror and just look at myself naked while I rubbed my stomach.

Nothing narcissistic or sexual, it was just the amazing feeling of it all. That there was this little being growing inside that big, fat belly.

I also felt extremely healthy (must be the prenatal vitamins) and. . . . horny.

I have to confess, the first four months of my pregnancy, I was one hot little momma. I didn’t show at all until then, but my breasts were, if I do say so myself, pretty amazing.

Vestal, I agree, pregnant woman bring out all sorts of protective urges in me. I’m always making them sit down and insisting that they let me take care of everything. Of course, that bugged the crap out of me when people did that to me when I was pregnant…

First, ReservoirDog, your post made me laugh.

Second, I too find pregnant women to be beautiful. Not in a sexual way (well still in a sexual way for my wife, but that is another thread), but beautiful.

I think it is a combination that has some to do with the fact of the baby growing inside and all that.

I’ll stick to caring for pregnant cats and dogs, thank you very much. Watching a momma cat or dog care for her babies, now that is cute.

Too funny Reservoir… personally I think I was beautiful when pregnant. My hair grew and shone, my nails grew and I had lots of pink colour… even my dad said his little girl glowed!..best of all, I didnt gain much weight, so I felt great too.

We are, each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another

You know, I think it’s high time men got pregnant.

Some drink at the fountain of knowledge…others just gargle.

A pregnant woman is incredibly beautiful when it’s your child in there.

I was the healthiest of my life while I was pregnant. I didn’t gain much weight…didn’t even have to wear maternity clothes until I was 7 1/2 months…but then…I got huge my 8th and 9th month…I looked like I was carrying a baby elephant…my son weighed almost 10 pounds. But still…I only gained about 15 pounds the whole time. But there is definitely some chemical deals going on…my hair grew faster…my nails were stronger…it was an amazing time.
