I could have sworn that I read/heard several times that Prince is Michael Jackson’s cousin. I said so yesterday at lunch and drew skeptical stares from my colleagues. Then when I started thinking about it, I realized that I hadn’t heard anything in at least 10 years on the subject, and a Google search turned up nothing. Am I recalling something that never happened, or can someone help me out?
Disclaimer: I could not possibly have less intrinsic interest in this topic. I’m just trying to save face with my friends.
I’ve been a Prince fan (purely based on the music- Purple Rain is a horrible movie)
since I was 8 or so and I’ve never heard that. Which, of course, doesn’t make it necessarily untrue.
Prince is connected to almost every other pop artist somehow , though- it’s quite possible he’s written a song which was covered by someone who performed a duet with MJ…
I am almost certain they are not. I was living in Minneapolis Minnesota and remember seeing a very early newspaper review. The reviewer was just blown away, called him a genius, said he played over 20 instruments, and that he was sure to have his name in lights one day.
There are tantalizing hints of a familial link between them (Michael named both of his sons “Prince”; both were raised in the Jehovah’s Witness religion, etc.), but they are apparently unrelated. And since Purple Rain knocked Thriller out of the Number One spot circa 1984, I’m guessing they aren’t exactly friends either.
The names of their anscestors seem different, as do the places, but Michael Jackson’s grandad was named Prince* – that is the only connection is ee.
Prince Rogers Nelson:
Parets John L. Nelson (1926-2001) and Mattie Shaw (2nd marrriage Baker) (1920-2002) Michael jackson:
Parents: Joseph Jackson 1929 b. in Arkansas to Samuel Jackson and Chrystal Lee King and Katherine Scruse b.1930 to Prince Albert Scruse and Martha Upshaw
*Supposedly Prince was named after the band his folks were in – his Dad’s stage name was Prince Nelson, which isn’t AFAIK a family name.
You too? I just read that “Cars freeze instantly” thread to read “Cat’s freeze instantly”. Reminded me of that time the kids put all the baby rabbits in the freezer. I don’t know why. That’s what they said too, “I don’t know”. It was a close call, they were pretty cold but not goners.
Well I am new to the board. Already the mods have gently corrected my spelling and so on. I’m just trying to be one of the guys…my post seemed ok to me…something worng?
