Simple exercise for our Conspiracy Theorist: using the average mass of a terran class planet calculate the force of gravitation between the object and, say, Earth’s moon. You can use Newton’s equation instead of General Relativity. Then calculate how much acceleration is produced by that force.
Then explain why nobody but YouTube activists has noticed.

To help out, the mass of the moon is 7.4 × 10^22 kilograms (rounded that off)…oh, and G is 6.674×10−11 N m2 kg−2. All you need to complete Finn’s request is an approximate mass for the, um, brown dwarf (there is a range in the first paragraph…I’d go with the lower order…say 2 × 10^27 kilograms, or about the mass of Jupiter in her hair, oh oh oh oh oh…) and the radius (no idea here…you might want to start with about 150,000,000 km, or approximately 1AU and work from there). So…what would that Force be? And why aren’t we seeing it? Leaving aside that the government doesn’t want us to see it, why haven’t all those amateur astronomers out there (not to mention all the professional ones who would have to be suppressed to keep this under wraps) seen it? I mean, you do realize that Jupiter has a huge effect on the solar system, and that’s at the lower order of what a brown dwarf would be…and Jupiter is in a STABLE ORBIT. If Jupiter was traveling on an orbit like what you are suggesting then it would disturb the orbits OF EVERY PLANETARY BODY IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND BE IMPOSSIBLE TO COVER UP. Also, it wouldn’t just destroy civilization ever 3000 odd years, it would destroy all life on this planet and probably the planet itself.
Seriously, this is the basics of celestial mechanics…you SHOULD have learned this shit in freaking high school.

There are literally thousands of sites on the net about this event; everyone has chosen to ignore it. This planet is in our solar system right now. It may cause massive tidal waves on all the coasts. The US military has already given briefings to their personnel stationed on the US coastline.

Doesn’t really matter how close a brown dwarf came to earth, the poles still wouldn’t shift. We’d likely go careening off our orbital path, but we’d stay spinning on our pole just fine. There’s no way for gravity to act on a sphere such that it alters its spin.
It’s sloppy physics like this that give conspiracy theories a bad name.
You just don’t seem to get it. If there is something the size of Jupiter or bigger in our solar system, there is no way to cover that up. And if it moves through the solar system then it’s not going to cause some tidal waves…it’s going to shift the orbits of every planet in the solar system, including this one. Which is going to cause all life on this rock to cease, not simply end civilization.
The fact that some crazy folks on the internet believe it is militantly unconvincing, since you can find folks on the internet that believe all sorts of stupid, silly bullshit. If you want to convince anyone, you need some hard EVIDENCE…not YouTube videos and horseshit.
Chappy Another question for you, assuming you are correct what should we do? I gather we should leave the coastlines. How far inland is enough? What else should we do?

Quintas, The only observatories that are able to view it at this time are in the southern hemisphere. It’s coming up from the south. Look at the pictures from Antarctica in July when it’s supposed to be dark. Why haven’t you heard about that on the “standard” news and “government approved” sites? Listen and look at what the Inuit peoples are saying. I suppose all this is BS also?

Doc, According to one of Johns radio shows it could possibly reach the blue ridge parkway in the Appalachians The gravitational pull is changing the earths tilt which may result in a sloshing effect on large bodies of water giving the effect of a tidal wave. There is also a large debris field following the object. We may get asteroid hits…

It must be the silly season again. It’s cartoon gravity that only affects stuff behind it, like when the Road Runner is going really, really fast and has all sorts of debris and stuff following in it’s wake. Sadly, in real life gravity works a bit differently, and you’d see the effects of such a large body moving through the solar system in more than the cartoonish debris field moving behind the thing…and more than just the Inuit in Antarctica (:p) would be able to see the disruption.
