Are There Any Arminian Presbyterians

Are there any Presbyterians who are theologically Arminian?

For those who like me wondered what was Curtis LeMay talking about:

two relevant wikipedia links.

I’m an atheist but every Armenian I know (with only one exception), including my family is Armenian Apostolic. The one exception is a Catholic family.

I know quite a few Armenians (sometimes it seems like half of So Cal is Armenian).

Psst! See post #2. Arminian, not Armenian :).

Oh nice.I’ve never heard of an Arminian before. I noticed the “spelling error” in the OP but I guess it wasn’t an error at all.

Be back later, reading up on Arminians.

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church has Arminian tendencies.

I have no luck finding any. Although Baptists are generally Calvinist, there are Arminian groups, most notably the Free Will Baptists.

I thought Southern Baptists were Arminian-Billy Graham is Arminian.

“Arminian” is kind of like “invertebrate” – it’s a grab-bag term used to include everyone/everything that is NOT part of the contrasting term. The only similarity that sea squirts, butterflies, and amoebae have in common is that they don’t have backbones (and otherv vertebrate specializations). Likewise, the only similarity in Catholics, Cops, Methodists, and Free Will Baptists (beyond their common Christianity) is that they are not Calvinists. 90% of “Arminians” wouldn’t know Jacobus Arminius from Adam (at least not without checking for a navwl).

Which is annoying, because the actual Arminians had a coherent theology. See for instance, the articles of Remonstrance, which I’d sum up as follows:

  1. God has chosen to save all those, through the grace of the Holy Spirit, all those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and persevere in that believe and condemn all those those who do not.

  2. Jesus died for all men, and obtained, for all men, forgiveness from sin, but no one is forgiven of his sins unless he believes in Jesus.

  3. Man is in a natural state of sin, and can not, by his own efforts, be saved from hell or do anything that is good, even have faith in Jesus, but only if he’s born again through the grace of the Holy Spirit

  4. Divine grace is the beginning of everything that is good, and a person can’t do anything without it. So any good a person does must be attributed to God. But a person can resist such grace and choose to do evil.

  5. Everyone with true faith can strive against evil, and if they’re ready, God will give them the power to overcome sin. But it’s possible that they can choose to turn away from God and give up Grace, and that question requires further study.

Ah maybe you’re right. Wikipedia:

Arminianism + born-again “saved forever” stuff.

What if you have a Muslim or Buddhist cop? The Muslim might even be Egyptian–although clearly not Copt.

It was a typo, omndebb
(Besides, obviously a Cop would not participate in a Robber Synod! :p)
