Are there any funny morning radio show hosts? On any station?

I’ll second this. I went through a phase of listening to them every morning for a year or so, and still listen occasionally. They can be quite funny, and even when they’re not funny they’re also not annoying, mostly because they don’t have the inane Howard Stern-style echo chamber of heehawing retards in the background laughing at every stupid comment.

There was a funny radio show host here in San Francisco, on Live 105. Once. In 1997. For about twenty fortnights. Or so.

His name was Johnny Steele, and he was intelligent, funny and got all kinds of interesting people to call in. He sponsored fun and different events, such as a showing of The Bad Seed (the old version) in a club in San Francisco. He had an intern named Ray (I think) who he would send out on various errands and/or quests. I loved them both very dearly. Then one morning I turned on the radio and heard that stupid idiotic boring dumb sophomoric moron Howard Stern. The station had been bought out and they dumped Johnny with no notice whatsoever. I called and gave the station a piece of my mind, swore I’d never listen to them again, and gave up on morning shows for ever and ever.

What, too bitter?

In LA? Mark and Brian - KLOS. The best morning show there is. I’d rather stick icepicks in my ears than listen to Stern.

When I lived in Albquerque one of the rock stations, 94.1 FM, had a pretty good morning show. In Las Vegas, morning radio sucked something awful. Now I have Sirius, and It’s the best $15 a month I spend.

bigbabysweets2000 Germany or Florida was bit with Adam and Dr. Drew where a caller would give them a current event and they would guess if it occured in Germany or Florida. I do miss Adam on LL. I tried to listen to Adam when he made the move to mornings, and I was not impressed at all.

The OP is in Ontario and that sure would be my suggestion. I vacation in PEI every summer; CBC goes on when I cross the border and doesn’t go off until I return.

I work at the station and I can’t stand their show. Preva & Kelli are great people but I could care less for M&B.

My husband has gotten off the XRT and onto the LUP in the past coupla months. He never embraced Axle Rose when he was Da Man, but for some reason, he’s a headbanger now. What. The fuck.

(p.s.: I used to date a Leisure Suit.)

I listen to Curtis and Kuby. They have sort of an Archie Bunker vs. Meathead dynamic that works really well. They have to both be on, though, otherwise either one alone becomes insufferable after ten minutes.

The only other morning show I ever looked forward to was Lionel. But that didn’t last long.

Dick is still OK, but as his radio venue will tell (“Oldies” 104.3 FM WOMC) his audience has skewed older, and so has much of his material.

They replaced him (in one incarnation) with Danny Bonaduce, who I thought was actually a pretty funny morning show host. He left for NYC, and things went down VERY fast from there. Turnover among Detroit morning shows has been ridiculous on the more popular stations.

As I drive a lot in both countries, I’m getting spoiled by NPR. CBC Radio is vastly inferior, IMHO. NPR is the best radio station out there.

Dick always hated the heavier Rock and Roll. (I recall an interview where he talked about praying for a Bobby Vinton record to come up in rotation from the program director’s selections.) I suspect that that is one reason he pioneered comedy over music as soon as he had a sufficent audience base to get away with it.

We have The Morning Buzz* in NH. God, how they suck. Picture a fat bearded fuck who speaks so that his voice hits the bass. He’s joined by a shithead who proudly proclaims how often he masturbates, followed by a douche who has one of those niffty sidekick names and also is trying (but barely) to start his own successful band. What you have is a shitty fucking show only fit for the toothless and inbred. The fat fuck talks and talks about whatever, always trying to say a word that makes his voice sound deeper. Jesus, they suck! And yet people listen to them!

I think the best morning show in my area is by WAAF. Greg Hill is the host and has a few great sidemen. I don’t always agree on his views, but I’d be happy to buy the guy and his cast a beer; they at least do not sound like dumb fucktard hicks, but rather normal NE people just talking and laughing about the day. Also, I thought they did the best coverage of 9/11 than any station in my area.

Nowadays I just listen to NPR. I like that I get news and some interesting stories.

*The last time I seriously listened to it was back in '03, so some parts may differ.

Used to listen to The Greaseman in DC a long time ago. Wicked funny.

I’d recommend you try Stephanie Miller, even though it does consist of two guys and a gal doing yuks – but at least their jokes tend towards slamming politicians and celebrities, instead of laughing at every spousal mishap their guests share.

I’ll third Bob and Tom. They run to my sense of humor, but even if they don’t run to yours the comedians they have on will.

I also listen to NPR. It’s usually not as funny, but it’s very informative.

Bob and Tom are O.K. , though Chick is the only one of the crew who is funny. And some of the guests are a riot.

Hard to remember that far back, but there was a time when radio in Philly didn’t suck. John Harvey did morning drive time on WIOQ-he had his funny moments, and also played music. WRTI had all jazz, and WFLN concentrated on classical works. You could hear entire album sides in one shot late at night. John DeBella cranked out some funny stuff on WMMR, and then WYSP put Stern on. The age of suckiness had arrived. A brief ray of sunshine beckoned with WDRE, but suddenly that station had to change format and although some of the people went to WPLY, it wasn’t as good as the DRE days. WFLN went away-now classical is the daytime fare on WRTI and you must wait for 6PM to get BP with the GM.

OG NO! Mark and Brian typify all that if f’ed up with morning radio. Christ I got to the point that if I head one more Elvis 'Momma baby" out of them I would have gone postal. They stopped being funny in what May of 1992?
You want funny in the AM?
Tune your dial up to 106.7 KROQ FM and listen to Kevin and Bean.
yeah two funny guys and a girl traffic reporter. But can Mark and Brian say that both Adam Corolla and Jimmy Kimmel got their start on their show? No way, both of these guys started with Kevin and Bean.
Just before the top of the hour Ralph does the show biz news. Always good for a laugh.
Try it you will like it.

Shit, Kal - at least yours listens to MUSIC. Mine has to have 780 AM on - fucking Felicia Middlebrooks and Sherman Kaplan are going to make me snap one of these days - “DUBULYEW bbm” - AACK!!!

You did NOT date a Leisure Suit - WHO??? And can I have your autograph?

Oh - did you hear Steve and Garry were back together if only for one afternoon a few days ago??? Feder says it’ll never happen again, but we can hope…

I don’t get it. These shows are so universal on this continent yet I have never met anyone who doesn’t claim to hate them. How can this happen?

Has anyone noticed how freakishly terrifying the poster ads are for these shows? There is one that has been tormenting me for months, both DJs (whose names and station I have blocked from my memory) look astonishingly horse-faced. I thought that was a one-off until I saw a new batch featuring Mad Dog and Billie on some station or other, who each look horrendous as well.

I guess it’s hard to visually represent a radio show … and if they’re trying to visually represent an appalling radio show, I guess it just makes sense that they would show something visually appalling as well.
