I’ve never understood why Stephanie Miller isn’t a well-known gal here on the Straight Dope. She’s smart, brilliant, and a wise-ass, too. Her radio show is the most
astute commentary going these days. She calls the shots on political crap, but has muy fun as well with every temporal topic. Theatre of the Mind is apt:The Stephanie Miller Show
The best comparison I can think of is when Saturday Night Live was new and an active arm of the arch National Lampoon. The Stephanie Miller Show is the best humor/satire going on the media now. It’s quick witted and amazing, and I owe my sanity to it these days.
I enjoy the Dean Blundell Show on The Edge 102.1 in the Toronto area. Yes it is quite infantile, but at about 8am everyday they do their contests (What Happened? OR What’s wrong with you?) where people call in and tell you the stupid shit they did for free tickets. It amuses me. The main host also does “edge files” which sound similar to the Florida or Germany bit in that it is all about weird arse news stories.
I still usually enjoy Dave and Carole on WKLH in Milwaukee, but that may be due to the fact that I’m about the same age as they are, and I’ve been listening to them since 1985, so they’re like a pair of well-worn slippers to me. Sometimes they stink, but mostly they’re comfortable. And even the stink can be familiarly comforting, in a twisted way. Like hearing Carole for the thousandth time report that someone has been “accused with” a crime, rather than “accused of”.
