My mother has rheuthmatoid arthritis(sp?), and even thought she has worked for all her life- she is getting to the point where she can’t stand long. She asked me to find her something she could do from home is such a thing existed. So I looked and all Ihave found are scams.
So I ask you, fellow dopers, Do you know of any legitimate work from home jobs? what are your experiences?
My son had a babysitter who had worked as a medical transcriptionist from home. She enjoyed the work but after having her second child went into home daycare.
I can’t vouch for it. I haven’t signed up for it yet. But I was refered to it by the computer school I just attended and they’re pretty careful who they refer their students to.
Does she have any skills that allow her to make things, such as sewing or needlepoint? From what I can see, there’s at least a chance she could make decent money sewing things and putting them on eBay. Mr. Athena’s mother is an extremely talented seamstress, and she’s been making things like custom made Christmas stockings and selling them on eBay. She’s no good at marketing herself, so I don’t think she’s making much money, but from what I can see the market is there and anyone with a bit of talent and marketing skill ought to be able to work with eBay to sell something.
Depending on her English and foreign-language skills, proofreader or translator could be an option. Involves a lot of writing and typing, though, so if her hands are in bad shape from arthritis it probably wouldn’t work.
So what about a job where you don’t have to stand up? I don’t work at home, but at my workplace, you can show up in your house slippers if you want, put your feet up on the desk, recline in the chair, and as long as you sound professional when you answer the calls, you’re good to go.
I tripped while moving and twisted my foot so badly I couldn’t put weight on it, but had no problems at work other than maneuvering myself to the bathroom (and the fact that I’m a hyper person and like to pace in my cubicle).
