Are there any other urban lands besides Chicagoland?

I’ve never heard of any other city called ____land. Just Chicagoland. And although it’s a silly appellation, and one I’ve never understood, much less never found the derivation of, I wonder if any other city has to suffer a similar fate. Do any other big (or even minor) cities have a similar common nickname?

Well, I’ve heard Los Angeles derogotorily called La-La Land before.

Right. But not Los Angelesland.

Right. It’s called the Southland. Although technically that describes an area, not just LA but all of LA’s little minions as well.

Cleveland. Land of the Cleves.

:smack: No help.

The original Hollywood sign read Hollywoodland, the name of a specific development tract.

It doesn’t answer your question, but it seems appropriate to provide a link anyway:
The Wikipedia article on Chicagoland

I think it’s important to make the distinction that “Chicagoland” is not a nickname for the City of Chicago (as stated in the OP), but for the Chicago Metropolitan Area, including parts of Indiana and Wisconsin as well as Illinois. The Wikipedia article linked to by Thudlow Boink goes into this in detail. So, it’s a reasonable approximation to say that Chicagoland:Chicago as The Southland:Los Angeles.

I live right near Oakland, a major city in the East Bay.

I turned up some more by googling various plant/tree names plus “land”. Elmland and Roseland for example, I’m sure that you can find plenty of others in a few minutes.

And of course there are many countries (England, Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, Greenland).

My bad, are you looking for cities that specifically have the “nickname” ending in -land? I misread the OP.

There are a few references to Seattleland in this google search.

Portland, Homeland, Northland, Southland, Westland, & Eastland.

Not exactly the same thing, but Dallas-Ft. Worth (and Arlington, Plano, Lewisville, Coppell, etc.) is “the metroplex.”

I guess I didn’t make it clear in my OP that I’m aware that the term Chicagoland doesn’t pertain to only the Chicago city limits, but to the general metropolitan area. None-the-less, my question is fundamentally the same as it was - is this a term that only applies to Chicago? Or is there another metropolitan area someplace in the country that does the same basic thing? E.g. - would we ever find Omahaland? or The Greater Phoenixland Area, for instance?
