Are there any people in law enforcement on this board?

I’m just wondering if there are any cops, guards, etc… on this board. It seems like there are 10 different threads lambasting and Monday morning quarterbacking the actions of police officers at any given time and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cop wade in and get involved in the discussion.

FTR I think it’s pretty ridiculous how buckwild people get at the chance to second guess every cops decisions based on news reports etc… Seems like a pretty thankless fucking job to me. The only time they get praise on this board is when they save someones life but never for enforcing any sort of legal infraction.

Any cops around here?

And if not, do you feel like this board is over the top and completely one-sided when it comes to police officer criticism?

Yes there are police, lawyers, military, and telemarketers on this board.

I haven’t seen any posts in a while, but Badge participated in quite a few law enforcement threads a few years ago. He was a police officer somewhere in the Northwest, I believe.

Loach is also an officer IIRC, and another fellow I can’t recall at the moment.

I’m a bit surprised that you’ve never seen any of them participate in a thread. Guess you just weren’t in the right place at the right time.

On which end?

Qadgop the Mercotan is a prison doctor.

I know there are a number, though I’m not one. I have had at least three jobs in my life that are regularly lambasted (insurance sales, insurance claims and telemarketing) and I tend not to get too heavily into those threads. It gets a little tiring hearing that because of a legal profession you engaged in, that you deserve to be killed. It’s especially bad hearing how because some people in your line of work do something illegal or even just annoying that everyone in that line of work must be exactly like them.

Most of the time it just isn’t worth trying inject an alternate opinion based on experience into those type of threads.

Not LEO. However, up until last November, I had worked 4 years in Security.

1 year at a Warehouse and Truck Gate (unarmed).
1.25 years driving Armored in a downtown area (armed).
1 year working a small University (unarmed).
9 months working small sites (armed).

Is this board over the top regarding cops and security people? No. It’s just a couple of dickheads who have issues with authority figures. If you pay attention, it’s always the same few people. It would not surprise me in the least if most of those people had criminal records.

pkbites is a police officer, I believe.

Ages and ages ago, there was a police officer here named Bluepony, but he hasn’t been around in forever and a half.

I worked in law enforcement for close to 30 years. Different jurisdiction though.

Been one so long I took a full retirement with one department and hitched on with another.

I try not to get too crazy over what people post about cops. I find myself more pissed over some of the ridiculous laws that get passed in this country.

And the other thing is you won’t change the view of those folk who dislike law enforcement. You can always find a hole in methodology. I try not to waste pixels on them.

Clothahump has mentioned being a former cop, IIRC.

Re: the OP’s question, I don’t think the board is over the top or one-sided regarding police issues. A few people chime in to every thread concerning police malfeasance to remind everyone how much they dislike cops. A few other people chime in to every such thread to say that there’s not enough evidence (seems like there never is) to justify whtever negative assumption is being made. Most, it seems, read without comment, just like any other thread.

This thread was linked to me in a PM. I have not been spending too much time here lately. FTR I’ve been a police officer in New Jersey for 11 years, minus a couple of deployments.

My boyfriend has been in police work for about 20 years, military and civil; and one of my best friends has been a patrolman or detective for all except about 2 of the last 30 years. When police issues come up on this board, I tend to read the threads, but don’t usually weigh in. I generally tend to favor the law enforcement side of many controversies. However, as in any job/profession, there are definitely some idiots working in law enforcement. Those officers shouldn’t be given any sort of blanket immunity from the consequences of doing their jobs badly, but other officers shouldn’t have their images tainted just because of a few morons who share their profession.

It’s not the board- it’s America. American police officers, are, for the most part, extremely honest. There are lots of countries where you don’t expect to have to bribe a law enforcement officer, but cops are generally liked and respected in those places.

Not here.

I think it’s part of a mistrust of civil servants in general. America has a scrupulous, relatively efficient and effective government (lots of them, in fact) but Americans are terrified of it.

When my wife’s family emigrated to this country they were given a book about what to expect. One part warned them in detail not to attempt to bribe American policemen.

I would love to read that book. Outside views of one’s own culture through the lens of another culture are always nifty.

I was in local law enforcement (patrol and undercover) in several departments and involved in the protection of a particular well-known national asset, plus taught at one of the US’s largest police training facilities for a decade. I was also heavily involved in RADAR at a time when it was a really hot topic.

Similar to what some others have said above, I don’t try to change someone’s notions, but will supply facts if I know them and happen to be wandering by.
