Why I hate cops

They masquarade as good guys, but most are just asshole bullies. We are expected to show them respect. They feel no such compulsion toward the public. They lie, trample on peoples rights, and brag about both. Why do lawmen seldom know the fucking law ?
Stories ? Yea, I got plenty. You first.

Sentiments voiced by many a lawbreaker.

I’ll just mention that I’ve never had a problem with them, nor have I run into any that exhibit the attributes you mentioned.
Maybe it’s just me.

Nor have I. What’s with this “You first” business?

Top of the Pit, Ma!

Dunno. I had the same thought as the OP yesterday when a state cop zoomed by me going well over 80 MPH in a 50 MPH zone. No patrol lights on and in the direction of the police barracks. I’m assuming end of a shift.

Why yes, I have some police stories:

  • when my elderly parents’ garden was vandalised, the police were very comforting to my Mum and Dad.
Although it was a minor crime (fence broken; some flowers trampled) they put together this incident with several others and deduced that the culprit had travelled from a particular pub back to their house, doing damage along the way.
They arrested the criminal and my parents used that to claim money back for repairs.

  • I had a suspicious bloke come to the door, claiming he worked for an energy company (though he had no identification.) I called the police. They took a description and arrested him literally in 15 minutes (he was in the act of talking his way into an elderly lady’s house.)

The police are courteous, helpful and efficient. I feel safe in my house knowing what a great job they are doing.

You sound like a cop.

I just hate cops because they’re all so young nowadays! Barely shaving, and probably just learned to tie their own shoelaces.

Yeah, now geddoff’ve my lawn.

Hunh, I’ve always figured that cops are just people. I’m sure there are arrogant asses among them, but those that I have had conversations with have been unfailingly polite and helpful, even when I was in the wrong.

Funny thing, I’ve found that when I treat someone with the basic respect due another human being and don’t automatically assume he or she is a jerk and out to get me, I generally get treated with equal respect and our business or conversation goes smoothly.

The vandals bent your parents’ zees into esses?

I’ve seen some bad ones. Seen some good ones too.

Strange how that works, isn’t it?

Meant to add - Yo - common good - what’d you do?

In my experience, the cops rarely just waste their time picking on law-abiding people for no reason.

Cops are fun. You think you have stories? Cops have STORIES!

For both of you, wouldn’t that be zeds into esses?

well I speed a lot. Probably pulled over 35-40 times. Only had one cop who wasn’t professional and polite. That is probably close to the same percentage of folks who are jerks. police are people and there are good one and bad ones and like all of us even the good ones can have a bad day.

There are lousy and corrupt cops. There are lousy and corrupt doctors. There are lousy and corrupt lawyers. There are lousy and corrupt priests. That doesn’t mean that everyone in the aforementioned professions is lousy and corrupt.

One thing I try to live by is that if you argue with a policeman you will lose. You might not like it, it might be unfortunate that that is the case but it is a fact of life. So, don’t argue! If the situation allows for discretion it seems to me to be obvious that being hostile is not going to get the discretion to go in your favour. The place for arguments is in front of a judge (or similar).

As I said in a previous message, I have been arrested by the police and ended up in front of a judge (and as I also said, I won’t explain the circumstances). If anything I had more respect for the police after that little incident than before.

I got checked out a few weeks back by a rural female sheriff with a K-9 in her car. She was doing her job; I was not doing anything wrong but looked odd where I was (photographer).

Gawd, she was sexy. Been fantasizing about her ever since…

Emphasis added. Who was checking out whom, again?
