Are there any reliable accounts of reptiles/amphibians being encased in rocks?

There are numerous accounts of gazillion year old rocks being broken open to reveal living toads, lizards, snakes, etc., but none seem to be more than anecdotal. While I don’t believe anybody really thinks that a frog becomes immortal if somehow limestone forms around it, there is a rational hypothesis that if a frog when still tiny falls through a crevice into a pocket in a porous rock, it could conceivably live by attracting insects into the cavity, though I have also read that its own waste would kill it.

Does anybody know if there is a reliable account of any live animal ever being found encased in some form of geological substance?

I am not aware of any scientifically verified accounts of such an event. As you say, they are anecdotal. IMO, they are either hoaxes or mistaken observations.

Some frogs estivate while encased in mud that can become quite hard, but this isn’t rock. It’s possible that some supposed observations might be due to such cases.

The issue has been discussed several times before on the boards: here’s one thread with links to another.
As I pointed out in the first of those threads, the most quoted example is probably the toad reported by Charles Dawson. But then his most famous discovery was Piltdown Man.
